you will always get people who think your a +*"*"°§ because you drive a LR. Same as they will always rubbish it even when the know nothing about it and have never driven one.
At school it was what they called "peer pressure".

I think Mick Jagger sung something about "He can't be a man because he doen't smoke the same cigarettes as me" That about somes it up. They wouldn't see a blowfly on their nose, and probably would not recognise it if they did.

When I was a kid there was a bushfire and it started to get a hold on top of a hill. The firetrucks could not get straight up the hill, had to go around from the back and loose precious time. Some blokes offered to take them men up in their toyotas, LRs etc. No body got up the hill. One bloke had an old austin-champ, he was laughed at when he said he would take them all up while the trucks were going around the back way. The end result was he made it up the hill and back down many times. I do not know if it was his driving or the vehicle, but none of the others got up. They were also very quite after that.

I have stopped breaking my head over every know-it-all who reckons LR products are unreliable. I always ask if they ever owned one before or if their source of information have owned one. If the answer is no (which in most cases it is!) I simply state that they are making decisions/forming opinions on rumours and hearsay .. and if they listen to a wider group of people that all vehicles will be labeled as unreliable.

After that I tell them how suited they are for Toyota ownership

Spot on Henry, i get sick of people rubbishing LR's on Overlander scaring people off when they ask questions about land rover products. When people come here and ask questions about a particular land rover vehicle they get the truth, the thing about LR owners is they arent scared to admitt a fault when they find one. Instead of complaining we just set about fixing the problem. LR vehicles are by far the best 4x4's off road, even biased magazines cant deny that. However as stated above they manage to find some other problem to stop them winning awards. The simple fact is, as a second hand buy, with rising fuel costs and on a limited budget you cant get a better off road/daily driver than a disco or even a defender. Matt

I don't know how many of you have ever looked at John Brabyn's http://rangerovers.net website and seen how much useful info there is on repairing Rangies

I'm proud to say I've provided some of the pix and articles myself and I've received a lot of emails over the past few years thanking me for the assistance these articles have given.

If you don't have it book-marked, I suggest you do because a lot of the problems you will ever experience are covered on the site.

Thankyou ron, another example of the Land Rover close nit family nature. Matt

An article I rember in a 4X4 mag when the 110 first came out many years ago started with
"The best thing about the Land Rover was getting out of it and into my brand new FJxyz toyota with.............(list of mods)" He then went on to rubbish it throughout the article. The end sentance totally blew any credability of his article away, and proved without any doubt he was biased. It went as follows "For the seroius offroader there is no better vehicle"

And they say that the reviewers are not biased, who are they trying to kid??

We should start a Land Rover Owners Australia Magazine, we could all contribute, do road test on cruisers just for fun and then torch them at the end of each test saying this is all toyotas are good for- fire lighters.

I appreciate that human beings are biased and always will be, but if i worked for a magazine and anther make brought out a vehicle that was better than mine i would say so, but i would also say why. Not just say its crap. Matt

thats why I stay out of a lot of forums and only read mags with half an eye.

As one comedian said once "you can't belive anything you read nowadays, execpt the date on the top of the paper, and it is best to check on that as well"

I still read the Overlander forum when I'm bored, mainly for the entertainment value . These days it's like a pack of toddlers having an all in brawl in a play pen most of the time.

Certainly much of value in the 4wd stakes.
