I hate having keys of stuff in my pockets when driving, so I put the black box thingy in the centre console where it rolled around annoying me for the whole trip - a big step backwards IMO, and certainly not an item that would make me buy a car, quite the opposite.
    Exactly,i hate the thing(the D4 has one),an absolute PITA

    Technology for technologies sake

And for all the LR advertising, etc about outdoors type activities, the stupid thing isn't even waterproof

In fact it is very delicate, ours has fallen apart for the second time,LR have fixed it once under warranty.

    Slightly off topic,

Remember the first of the corollas, they had a button that you had to push near the ignition,or the key would not come out. Many years ago my boss went to move one of the office girls corolla as the parking ticket guys were on the prowl.
We watched laughing as he spent many minutes trying to get the key out of the ignition, and eventually gave up.

And following on from Grey Ghost, when i first got the D4,we took my 80yr old Mother somewhere, and she said, starting this thing is just like the old Land Rovers, everything goes around and comes back again.
But at least they had a key, as well as being push button start.

It really has put me off buying a D4. After recently having to break a window to get into my car I would have loved a key lock that wasn't electronic. I am so over technology at the moment. At the same time I was living in a hotel with one of those key cards that only worked half the time. They had them in the transit accommodation at the RAAF Base in Townsville for a while. The humidity killed them. After dragging your bags over 500metres and then up three flights of stairs and then the card doesn't work I think they went back to keys after being told too many times what they could do with their electronic cards.

I like the push button start in our Mazda 2. I click to unlock the car, put the key in my pocket and I don't need it again - just push the button. Excellent!

While I get that's what's supposed to happen, how do you deal with all the other keys you have with you? You either have to have 2 keyrings - I'd loose one for sure if I did that, or else put up with a bunch of keys in your pocket (I can't stand that). Unless you don't have any work keys you need to carry, or a house key, etc...?

No win either way IMO. An ignition is a very handy place to store your keys while driving, and it's desgined to ensure you take your keys with you as you have to turn off the engine with them - just brilliant.

I never put anything other than a small keyring on my car keys, don't want
    A) the weight of them to potentially interfere with/damage the key or ignition barrel.
them slapping around while driving, **** it's annoying!
I like push button starts, I'd be interested in trying to retrofit something like that to my discovery.

Having recently purchased a new car - I can confirm (at least with my car) that the key-less ignition has the design flaw as Gav as said...

I have all of my keys on one keyring - and I have to put that keyring in the cup holder so that my keys aren't in my pocket... It's either in the cup holder OR on the front seat...

So what happens when I need the cup holder!!! lol

Having said that - I know that other cars have a place to insert the key-less key (eg a Nissan Murano has a slot that you insert the key into, which is on the dash)... Which then leads to the question... Why not just keep the key barrel - as Gav said, it's handy!!!

Oh the problems of modern cars... lol
