i'm thinking slightly along different lines.

vaccines are good in our lifetime.
but are they good for humans over 5-10 generations?
overpopulation will become a problem
the weak who should of died, dont and possibly breed.

vaccines are best practice but we dont know everything about the human body.

speaking of which, im late for this years flu shot.

Vaccines are most readily available in the developed world where overpopulation (Contrary to popular perception) is not a problem.
In the underdeveloped world, sadly, population will be managed by the usual means: Famine, Epidemic, Conflict and the inability of the developed wold to mind it's own business, cease exploitation and cease political and ideological interference. Not to mention the damage done by botched damage control.
However despite of, and possibly due to the influence if the developed world, the population of the underdeveloped world continues to increase quite rapidly.

I had it as a child in the '40s, so did my sisters, so did all my friends. It was probably the most uncomfortable of the chidhood diseases but no-one died of it and no-one was left with any lasting effect.
Modern children are raised in such sterile conditions that they don't develope a stong resistance to diseases hence, what was just a horrible couple of weeks off school is now determined as dangerous.

One of the main reasons kids get sick is to trigger the immune system, to protect for the future. Children recover from illness far more easily than adults, as any parent will know. Provided, that is, if they do recover. Whooping cough has seen off quite a few over the years, and will do so again if standards slip.

As I said, getting whooping cough as an adult is no joke, and has been likened to glandular fever in it's ability to debilitate. I would much prefer to have had it as a child, as you did.

Thanks Dave. it's a pretty sad thing for a parent to say, but I wasn't aware that there was a booster or even whether I had never been vaccinated for Hooping Cough. It's a good thing my kids are past the danger period.

i didnt say its a problem. its something we need to think about to prevent it possibly being a problem in the future.
