Keeping it simple is complicated.
just managed to extract a star picket that's been irritating me ever since I moved in here (9 years). Why it was where it was beats me. Out now though so feeling chuffed.

A year or so ago we lost our last dog to cancer, he was a bloody good dog too.
I bring this up because I was criticized (<sp?) for the way I name dogs... But this started via my father... Let me explain..
In the past I had a blue heeler cross dalmation (sounds bad but dalmation is part of the breed anyway hence the "spots" so the vet told me) he was a bit taller and more pronounced spots but he was a smart bugger!..
I got him from the pound, and was living with my parents at the time, I called him "Biggles" because as soon as the back family room door opened he would run at full pace and jump through from about 4 feet away!
No effort on my part would stop him, Dad (old farmer and ex publican) told me he'd have a go at fixing it, two days later he wasnt doing it anymore just walking up, he'd still try to come in whenever door was open but didnt run and jump. I asked how he did it and he told me he opened the door but closed it before the dog got in meaning he hit the door a few times! Anyway that dog loved the old man (more than me it seems) and he'd keep sitting on the old mans feet (like a collie) whenever the chance came he'd be sitting there looking up at him. The old man would nudge him off and say "**** off dog" (insert a 4 letter commonly used word meaning piddle) but the dog was unrelenting. He was brilliant with the rescued wallabys, kangaroos, koalas and possums at the house, (parents did lots of fauna rescue) never having a go at them even when they attacked at him.
Anyway eventually he wouldn't answer to "biggles" and started answering to "**** off dog" - Dad took the dog over when I moved to Coober (bugger wasnt coming with me and leaving Dad) and when he reregistered it Dad changed the name to "P.O.D" (you cant write **** off dog" on the rego papers!)(or here it seems) The dog did anything he )dad) wanted and died about 15 years later, something that broke the whole familys heart... he came inside sat on the old mans feet as he watched telly and laid down, a few minutes later he was asleep. About 15 minutes later Dad realised POD had died..
A great dog, he used to have a lot of fun, Dad worked in a warehouse parttime sending furniture and supplies to remote communities, he'd get the order together in a big holder lifted around on a massive forklift, Pod would ride along on the forklift when Dad was working. Dad saw a manager from the department he was working for coming to the warehouse, so he set POD up in the drivers seat of the forklift with it running, he put one paw on the steering wheel and another on the lever (up/down) there was a huge empty carry box on front, then Dad stood back to the door the manager was coming in and as he came in said to POD, "this time bring it in slower, you were showing off last time" The manager nearly had a fit!
POD would also greet the ice cream truck whenever it came in the street and theyd give him a cone and Dad would pay later!! They mustve changed the recipe or something as one day the dog got the cone walked it back (head sideways to carry it) to the front lawn and ate it, but he didnt finish it and never went to the truck for another one! (Dad didnt mind it saved him a fortune!)
Anyway POD was a ripper dog, and a big loss.
Ive had other dogs over time, mainly border collies or heelers. (all strays or unwanted pups) I have a naming pattern I used.
Dog
Deefer (as in D for Dog)
Doggo
Dag (he was too!)
Doggie (as in Dog E)
at this stage the wife put her foot down and said I had to change the pattern, so the next one was
"Cozzie" (cos he is a dog)
Current dog is Buckley (because I had Buckleys of calling him Dog)
anyway, hopefully this will prompt some action here!
Cheers

What is it with South Australian coppers and bush poetry? Adam Lindsay Gordon was our first bush poet and a member of the South Australian Mounted Police, or was it the first member of the South Australian Mounted Police and a bush poet?
No...............I think the former.
Anyway, I think you're overdue Digger.![]()
