It is possible to grind up maggots or cockroaches and make a paste which tastes remarkably like Vegemite, I can advise from experience. I didn't do the grinding, but I did take a small taste of the result.
Personally, I prefer Marmite.

No, it was in Thailand. They also do dried rat and grasshoppers.
