That's what happen when you make almost all your staff casuals with no job security. No loyalty shown by the employer, so many of the staff are only there until they find a better job.

Then they(local businesses) complain when people buy on line.

I'll give the thumbs up to one of my local businesses. Every time I've been there they have been very helpful and knowledgeable. I'm not a regular nor frequent customer. (For those around Penrith, it's Metropolitan Industrial Supplies http://www.metroind.com.au/

Recently, they didn't have what I wanted, so they ordered the very small number I needed and arranged for me to pick them up at the wholesaler's business down the road so that I would get them quickly.

Staff tried to get me to use the machine and I said "If we do, many of you will soon be out of a job". The staff member didn't understand why.

In Woolies, I don't use self check out unless I have very few items.

You would be correct. Yet down the road at Cockburn completely different, I suppose as they have Autobahn and Repco next door and Ato 1 around the corner. The guys at Autobahn formerly MALS at Cockburn are great, so will go down there and get Plasti dip instead of Dupli Color. By all accounts Plasti Dip is better anyway. What annoys me most is it wasnt no thats all we have, it was being too inept to go out the back and check the pallet. I suppose as it was 20% off day they did not want to put out new stock.
    Cheers

I'd hazard a guess it was the same Super sign on the front of the building too.

Fortunately, we have three other stores within spitting distance - Repco on one side of the road, and the big blue castle and Auto One right next door to each other on the other side. There's also a new ARB shop in where Solomons Carpets used to be - they are pretty well stocked with a lot of 4WD gear - AND they're Land Rover fanatics, with Ben and his wife owning at least five of the brand.

That is pretty unusual, they are usually very good. I probablly had a spare in the back of my wagon.

Yep but I am working casual atm and for crap money, but I still do the best of my ability and show ethics. Surprised a couple of managers with the extra I would do. Otherwise you just get bored.

Of course that is the right outlook to life and work , it is difficult to maintain if in the casual loop for an extended period. There is the double fear of the tap on the shoulder and a few minutes later dismissed or more galling bypassed for a permanent position because there is a finders fee to be paid to the agency.
My experience has lead me to believe employees are to be regarded as disposable liabilities , and therefor customer service will slip even further
