Thanks for that, I'm looking mainly at LED which are lighter on electrical usage

    The "right" TV

    Hi Guys,

PLEASE, please stay clear of plasmas. They are the worst emitter of RF noise around. Any amateur radio operator in your area would absolutely hate you.

Some of the cheapies are not much better.

Plus, I don't think that you can buy a plasma tv now.

As for brands, I suggest you stay with a Sony or a Panasonic.

Samsungs are popular, but because of their features. Not a good fixer, though.

But pay little - expect a short life, and be happy when it lasts longer.
    Happy shopping.

Just picked up the old TV from the repair place and I had a short talk to the chap behind the counter. He recommends Samsung, LG and Panasonic as far as parts availability goes. BUT, he says it is a lottery, doesn't matter what brand you buy.

G'Day RoverS4, yeah plasma doesn't even come into it, besides I think they are yesterday's technology aren't they??? Also juice chewers!!!

Ian, put me onto this one, a Bauhn 55" from Aldi. Any thoughts on this. I aked the guy at the repair shop about them and he said he has had a few through for repair, they're not too bad.

It's got a 60 day satisfaction warranty and Aldi (sorry Digger ) are pretty good if anything goes wrong.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Yeah, we are pretty much settled (she has spoken) on the Aldi TV. This is another choice, but JB's special price finishes next Wednesday.

I've heard that Hisense are pretty good. Not particularly expensive, & I've heard that, (maybe only the bigger screens?) they have a full 3 year "in house" warranty, meaning that they come to your house to fix it, a useful condition, if ya've got a bigger screen.

ps. I was looking at a 48" Samsung at JB Hi-Fi for $998.
The other advice he gave me was ALWAYS get an extended warranty on new tv's as so many have issues within 5 years. I never get extended warranty, but I would on a tv.

Our Sony lost the digital picture. A 2c fuse failed on the digital tuner daughter board. $800 for a new daughter board or bridge the smc fuse with solder. Tried the later some 2 years ago. Still working.
