I dislike facebook - yes i have it, but only really to keep in touch with a few friends who I don't have phone numbers for.

Did you notice the last line of the story? 'About 100 participants from each country were interviewed.'
I would not have thought that 100 people could be considered a representative sample from a population the size of Australia's, let alone Japan or China!
Just someone coming up with their own theory and then using a 'study' to affirm it.

I guess you are right there POD. You can make figures say anything you want if you twist them around enough!!
