    Parking near federation square, melbourne

Hi everyone. Im heading into melbourne tomorrow and need to find parking near fed square about 3:30pm. Anyone know any good spots? Im also happy to park near a station a bit out of town and catch a train in.

    Cheers

Hi Dan, do you have any height restrictions in the vehicle you are going with? If not, then there is plenty of off street public parking nearby, but it will cost you. There is a bit of on street parking around there, but it is mostly short term - an hour or less.

Depending on which way you are coming in, you could park at a metropolitan train station and take a train to Flinders Street Station - it is across the road from Fed Square.

Don't forget your Miki card if you go this way.

Im in a D3 with roof racks so about 2.0m high. How much is nearby parking? I'd rather save a few quid and not drive all the way in if I can help it. Not a fan of driving in the city.

Oh and I don't have a miki card. They still do paper tickets right?

    Cheers

No paper tickets, Miki or nothing now,, it's a crap system. Parking for a few hours during the day around there will set you back about $50 I would expect. Most caprparks are 1.8 or 1.9 metres but there are a couple of 2.0 and 2.1 parks around, but hard to find.

Go to a 7-11 before you get on a train and grab a Miki, and train it in - it would be easier. Not all stations sell Miki's - only 'premium' stations.

I parked in the Queen Victoria Markets car park Victoria and Elizabeth streets. $12 all day for a weekday. Saw another 110 and 90 there, curse the high roof and my roof rack, can't get into any multistory car parks in Melbourne CBD. I tried the park out of town and train it in. Couldn't be bothered in the end and drove all the way in.

Ergh. $6 just to get a ticket I'll only use once, plus the fair of getting in and back. Times 2 1/2 as I need a ticket for my wife and kid.

I thought they were meant to be encouraging us to take public transport

I was a semi regular user of public transport until Miki was introduced - haven't been on a tram or train since.... The whole system is shagged....

When I have to visit the city, I park in Crown. The multilevel car park behind Crown Metropol off Clarendon St. (because I approach from Normanby St.).

You'll have to confirm height restrictions.

Oh, myki sucks. The inspectors roam around in wolf packs looking for tourists. Easy pickings.
Melbourne is one of Australias most unfriendly cities. myki confirms this.

Crown looks good except that due to melbourne cup its a public holiday eve and so parking goes from $6 for up to 6 hours to $18 flat rate. Bloody horses...

It's ironic in that the whole reason that we're going into the city is to be part of a paid survey to provide our opinions on public transport

Anyone want me to pass on any feedback?

    Cheers

I once worked with a NSW fellow in Adelaide. He kept parking in "No Standing" zones. When I pointed this out to him and suggested he may get a parking fine, he replied "Pfft! The fine in Adelaide is cheaper than parking in Sydney."

$18 for the day is pretty reasonable for parking close to Melbourne CBD.

What about Docklands Stadium and get yourself a few Myki cards for the tram rides?
