I imagine driving a 4WD would be many of our playtimes. If someone said you can't drive one in a bushland area as there was a possibility you could inadvertently cause the death of some creature on the track you may think this a bit more seriously.

People who fish and/or hunt as a recreational activity, will at some time cause the target creature to shake off its mortal coil. If this can be linked to the removal of a pest - regardless of its effect on overall population reduction, what is the problem? Is it the fact that some form of enjoyment is derived by the person engaged in this type of activity that is the issue?

I get it that some people believe all creatures should be allowed to run their full life cycle without interference from man both as a species and as individuals. I get that that some people cannot end the life of a creature and catch mice in no-kill traps and then release them to cause damage to others.

I am also appalled that there are groups out there that want to foster out foxes or that catch neuter and release feral cats back into the wild.

Each to their own I suppose

Who said anything about not killing feral pests? It's not drawing a long bow (kaaching!) to imagine a hilux full of bogans and beer killing whatever is in the water with very little impact on feral eradication. The only downside is responsible people can't kill a few carp. I can live with that, there are plenty of other things to shoot.

So it's really Hiluxes, bogans and beer that you are 'afraid' of?

    Not responsible people killing carp?

Then please leave Bow hunters, feral pest management, responsible people who hunt, hunting and politics out of your argument to support your party's 'objections' to a method that doesn't introduce a virus into a major basin with a connection to the ocean, thank you.

I guess it's only us without herpes that think introducing it to our largest water basin is dodgy?

hell, for years and years nightsoil was dumped right beside it by the council... anything could have sprouted out of that

This is the basis of my arguement. Some perceived threat or problem that may be caused by some group or individual is a basis for a lowest common denominator ban for everyone regardless of skill level, experience, or commitment to their chosen sport or recreational activity.

I am sure there are plenty of people out there that would love to ban 4WD in a host of locations and every little concession to the Kumbya brigade lessens law abiding people's opportunity to responsibly carry out their chosen leisure pursuit.

To say a responsible person would mistake a carp for a platypus is laughable. Sure there will always be persons who will act irresponsibly, the same ones that tear up natural areas with vehicles and trail bikes, the same ones that leave litter and toilet paper all over the place, the same ones that catch undersized fish and shoot protected species.

If they are caught doing the wrong thing, throw the book at them, confiscate their vehicle, equipment, fine them $10,000 and lock them up but why put everyone in the same basket all the time and respond by banning.

    I get your point.
Why haven't they banned thugby? It has documented history of turning people into quadraplegics.
I suspect it's because the institution is not a soft target

There are laws that protect the Platypus NOW. There are laws that prohibit cruelty to animals NOW.

There are enough laws to allow prosecution for even considering doing the wrong thing, with more crap coming before the senate each week. Why does this 'brigade of self elected social consciousness ' oppose anything they don't like the sound of, and call for more laws and more bans, while sprouting the tune that they know best? Have they infested the media so deeply that their ideology will dominate the news flow? I hope not...there are bigger issues.

They've convinced the powers that be to reduce speed zones from 100 to 80 and 110 to 100 claiming that speed is the reason for accidents.

They won't stop till they ban fun. Beer and Bourbon is next

Bow fishing in NSW inland waters is currently prohibited under the Fisheries Management (General) Regulation 2010. A bow and arrow is incorporated within the definition of a spear gun. To allow bow fishing would require changing the law, with more cost, and more time consumed by our legislators. Not less. Your argument is self defeating.

And indeed ... there are bigger issues ... so I'm out of here ...

You gotta make em do something to earn their big fat pay-packets, cushy super entitelments and their payed junkets overseas. Why no introduce or amend stupid mamby pamby draconian legislation and introduce some new ones to stop greenies from having a hissy fit everytime someone wants to do something they don't agree with.
