Not so sure the Mahindra has airbags the Defender does not. I love my Defender, but as a Firie, a battery under the passenger seat from a safety standpoint is a really stupid idea. Being upside down in a car wreak will be stressful and painful enough without battery acid leaking all over you. Also one of the first things we do when we arrive at a vehicle accident (fire brigade) is disconnect the battery, a bit hard when it is under the person we are trying to get out.
Both cars are great IMO the Mahindra has been trouble free apart a little gremlin in the central locking which I need to get fixed. Once in a while maybe once a month the car locks it self when you shut the door. I went to the auto electrician and he tried to replicate the fault maybe 100 times and it was perfect. I drove home to the farm, jumped out of the Mahindra to open the gate, shut the car door and the darn thing locked itself. I had to walk 350 meters to the house to get the spare key which annoyed me quite a bit. At least I was at home I suppose.
otherwise it is great, towed the caravan no worries, great off road, so far so good.
