Mahindra pick-up compared to a Puma Defender

This thread will mostly be next week as I am away and Tuesday or Wednesday I will bring it back. I intend to see how it is off road compared to my new Puma Defender 110 and see how it is re all other aspects of driving. I know the Mahindra wont ever be a Defender, this is not what this is about. I bought this demo Mahindra with diff lock, a steel bullbar, sidesteps, tinted windows, towbar and heavy duty aluminium tray for 22k from a dealer. I want to see basically what I got for my money performance wise compared to my beloved Defender.
Plus points so far for the Mahindra, loads of good quality extras and a seemingly capable 4x4 for very little money, but we will see about that next week..
I tried the pik up I ended up buying today on the road and driving round town it was great. Plenty of poke, a little bouncy sometimes, but so is the Defender, but if I am honest it is a tiny bit more bouncy than the Defender. Plus point though is no drive line clunks all, I really need to push this issue with the Defender dealer as it is starting to annoy me, my only real grip with my defender so far. Seats are amazing in the Mahindra, same seating position as the Defender, but big enough for a 6 foot 3 bloke like myself. With the seat right back in the Mahindra I could hardly reach the pedals!!
The seat position is better than the Defender too you dont feel like you need to amputate your right arm to drive it which is a big plus. Overall so far the Mahindra seems well thought out, only some issues inside so far detract from what seems to be a competent 4x4. The red cruise control padels on the steering wheel are pink not red already so faded. It seems some fade and some dont so I wonder if there was a dodgy batch.. The gear knob on the Mahindra is already looking a bit old, this is minor stuff, but it does spoil what is otherwise a good overall finish. It feels like a tough car is what they consider important, but the rest (inside) is a bit naf with some finishing, minor stuff, but it would have cost nothing to get it right. Otherwise so far I am impressed, paint finish is quite good and it feels well built like it will go anywhere. My only other grip is I would have liked a proper high low gear stick, the Mahindra has a electronic high low selector which works well but I would rather manual stick as there is less to wrong.
Next weel when I get back I will take a few pics and have a good crawl under it and then try it off road.
    More soon

I hope not, not what I want. I bought the Mahindra as the missus loves it (keeps her out of my Defender ) and because the Mahindra seems like the closest thing new to a Defender and cheap with extras included. The Mahindra will never be the iconic Defender, but I want to put it through its paces and see exactly what it is and what it is not.

Be interested in how it goes off road and what its like after a few hours on the road(seat wise- I suffer from bad lower back and I can tell if the seat is not up to scratch).

    Cheers

I suffer from back pain too, which is why I bought the Defender, the Mahindra "seems" like a perfect seating position, but I will reserve judgement till I do a couple of hours drive.

I saw a Mahindra for sale the other day, 2 years old 40K and only $9K !!

They look small and flimsy to me, like a glorified ATV. Probably OK for a little farm runabout. But Nothing like a Defender.

I am interested. They might have sorted the early issues and be a good little truck. God knows i love a Landy but they can be trying. I am open minded on other brands with character.

    Cheers
