Speed limit matches suburb IQ? Let's change the way we look at speed.

There are more deaths in this country from suicide than traffic accidents. Why don't governments have the same vigour in this tragic area?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

good idea, the govt should introduce a suicide tax.
could get 3 times as much funding.
and they could claim it works cause people never do it again.

just keep the gear selector and the pointy bits in the big clocks behind the thing you hold onto above the pedals when you're in the front right seat down below numbers you can spell and you'll be fine.

More annual deaths from asbestos than the annual road toll too.

Oh, and don't forget the salt toll:

I don't understand how the government allows the sale of 150 kmph + vehicles, when the max speed is largely 110. Surely the same logic applied to semi automatic weapons should be applied, potentially dangerous
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

A lot more people die at 100kph than 100mph

The highest speed recorded, over the holiday, was a tad under 200 kph in a 110 zone. That driver will be deservedly on shank's pony for a while.
As a motorcyclist and driver of a heavy vehicle I face various challenges in traffic, I should be able to assume that traffic is travelling within a few kilometres an hour, of the limit.
For this reason I personally endeavour to comply with speed limits, but with all the things that require attention whilst driving, it is easy to inadvertently exceed the limit by 10%, a margin that is not unreasonable.
There are many more behaviours on the road that are far more dangerous than minor speeding offences, but probably no where near as lucrative.
    100% agreement from me.
Of course there's a large component of revenue raising involved, particularly with speed cameras.
State Govts quack about the number of people caught in speed cameras, radar etc, blah, blah, blah, BUT if they revealed how many were under 5k
s over, & many are, the numbers would be dramatically reduced.
So, doing 105 in a 100 zone is dangerous, worthy of a $176 fine,..yeah right.
If ya're on a main road, & you need to overtake a semi doing say 90/95ks, it's pretty hard to overtake "properly" without going over 100KPH, and people get booked for this. I could go on.
    Pickles.
