I drink the sugarless one, but it's the caffeine in it that de hydrates.
Some one once said pepper also causes them, don't know it is a wives tail. I love ground pepper on food.

There's a wives tail about adding pepper to leaking radiators and it blocks up the leak, does pepper act as "bars leak" in humans and block the renal tract?

    Causes of stones can vary.
For me, it seems to be milk.
I would drink litres of the stuff every day. But it seems to bring on the stones more regularly.

When I cut out drinking milk, the kidneys seem to back off again.
Still have a bit in the coffee, the odd time I have cereal, and still consuming other dairy products. Just guzzling the milk seems to be my downfall.

I go 6 months, and feel great, then have a lapse for a few weeks/months and hit the milk again, and get landed with stones.

    This time..... I swear....

    Types of Kidney Stones

Not all kidney stones are made up of the same crystals. The different types of kidney stones include:
    Calcium

Calcium stones are the most common. They can be made of calcium oxalate (most common), phosphate, or maleate. Eating fewer oxalate-rich foods can reduce your risk of developing this type of stone. High-oxalate foods include potato chips, peanuts, chocolate, beets, and spinach.
    Uric Acid

This type of kidney stone is more common in men than in women. They can occur in people with gout or those going through chemotherapy. This type of stone develops when urine is too acidic. A diet rich in purines can increase urine's acidic level. Purine is a colorless substance in animal proteins, such as fish, shellfish, and meats.
    Struvite

This type of stone is found mostly in women with urinary tract infections. These stones can be large and cause urinary obstruction. These stones are caused by a kidney infection. Treating an underlying infection can prevent the development of struvite stones.
    Cystine

Cystine stones are rare. They occur in both men and women who have the genetic disorder cystinuria. With this type of stone, cystine ? an acid that occurs naturally in the body ? leaks from the kidneys into the urine.

Interesting information. When I had kidney stones the doc. said to start every day with a large drink of water to flush my kidneys after a night without fluids. So far it has worked.

It's not a fact but there is evidence that suggests it is the sugar fructose that increases your risk of developing kidney stones. Fructose is in most sugary carbonated drinks and fruit juices.
There is also evidence that suggests beer decreases your risk by up to 50%.
Whoda thunk it! XXXX a health tonic!

Ok, i have a 3mm stone stuck at the junction of the bladder. Its not too big to pass but is stuck at the "S" bend. They say it should pass thru. Ive got anti biotics, anti inflamatories and a script for oxy norm 10mg which i have to get in the morning coz the hospital pharmacy had no stock. Luckily i have some 5mg here so ill take 2 tabs. Aparently taking them with panadol or panadiene forte increases their effectivness they told me. Ive still got pain but not too much. I hope i can get some sleep tonight.

    Thanks everyone.

    Cheers Rod

Ps ive heard about the beer rumor b4. Its actually true. The doc told me. I dont drink beer so im stuffed...lol
