Wild stab,
With side activated air bags yes, without no.
But then they can add steps ex factory so
ADR 85 and 72 would be it, but can't find the detail ( poles and side intrusion)
In a conversation the other day it came up about wether Side steps/sliders interfered with side impact protection systems and the need to have them ADR certified as you would a roo bar.
Thoughts people.

I wouldnt have thought so as there's no sensors there? An crumple zone either. A bullbar needs to allow the crumple zone to work, needs to allow the sensors to work to trigger airbags, and needs to meet pedestrian impact requirements.
The sliders don't need to meet any of these, unless the sensors are in the sills (im pretty sure they're in the doors or roof)
Cheers

Sensors usually are on the transmission tunnel in most vehicles.
Would be interesting to know the legalities.
Yes for a side curtain equipped vehicle.D4 in this case.
Thanks

depends on the vehicle and how they attach.
if they are bolting to a chassis and no body work and the vehicle has no pyrotechnic or electrical side intrusion protection/safety systems then generally no unless the bars are manufactured in such a way that they protrude or fall afoul of one of the more common ADR requirements such as blocking a light (if you take them up to meet other bar work) or they constitute an unsafe protrusion or they oversize the dimensions of the vehicle then so long as they do not create a safety issue from poor construction then no, there should be no requriement for ADR (again your milage may vary depending on who does the assesment on the vehicle)
if you're in any of the other catagories then maybe.
Where I would be more worried about in the case of a mono build construction, electronic safety or pyro safety gear would be the insurance issues if someone inside the vehicle got injured.

Probably, the iron work itself no, but if there is an accident and the judge determines the air bags did not function correctly due to the mod, then the fun begins

Andy,
Why would sliders be any different to the factory sidesteps? I may be wrong legally, but I see no logical reason that they should effect side air bags any more than a side step. I realise they are more rigid, but as stated before , there is no crumple zone in the sills, which is what a D3/4 slider (or side step) bolts to.
I am sure that if someone hit my car hard enough from the side - the curtain air bags would deploy, despite my sliders.

I don't disagree, but if there was a claim who knows what the judge may think, esp if a so called expert witness may think. Personally I like the extra iron between me and the outside world.
Over time it is going to get harder and harder to do these modest mods
