Love your answer!!
Yep I generally put up with a lot personally but once that line is crossed. For those of you with kids there's no need to explain further. You let someone into your home / family / life in trust that they will do the right thing, especially when you've actually stated it!!! And when they don't well?.. let's just say I'm glad I didn't know the whole truth until after we had parted ways otherwise I might be in a whole world of trouble.
In this case what we thought to be the right course of action in walking away has sent the wrong message it seems, so sometimes you have to make a stand and say enough is enough. No-one deserves to have that level of power or control over someone else. No-one deserves to make someone feel like they can't even surface for air in their own city without consequence. No one deserves to try and make someone feel unsafe in their own home (that hasn't happened but the attempt is yet a further demonstration of how pathetic they are).
This next bit I say in reference to not just this case but all situations of this nature:
It's also interesting that "I don't wanna get involved" really means "I'm not interested in hearing what has happened". Turning a blind eye to these things doesn't make them go away. When things happen in the news and people say, "Why aren't these situations dealt with? Why didn't someone come forward sooner? Why didn't anyone do anything to stop it? This is why!! Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil. Let's bury our heads in the sand and pretend that evil does not exist. In the meantime we let evil get away with whatever it wants and those who fight it are shunned and discredited.
Rant over
To be honest I really hope this doesn't happen to anyone else's family. But I know that it will only be over for us when someone else takes our place.
There are many valid ways of dealing with a big negative, oppressive issue.
The trick is which one to use and what is the (potential) fallback position.
I find as I get older the more successful methods are more obvious from the outset.
cheers, DL
No way would I tell the police ..... I'd be the one in goal otherwise after I found them hassling my family. Much better the poor guy gets found beaten to an absolute pulp.... "I know nothing about it" ... They'd sure never be back for a second helping. Do you think your aggressor can get help from the police if you can't ??
I have a rather simple view on life ... If anyone messes with my family ... There is ssssooooo many very deep very empty mineshafts aroudn the place :wasntme:
Anyone that relies on the police for protection in living in a dream world. They can't be everywhere all the time. I've seen how long they take to get there if you ring them ( bloody hopeless). I've was jumped by 13 teenagers outside the local supermarket a few years back..... Get this, the supermarket is next to the police station ... If they'd looked out the window, they would have seen 13 people surrounding one ...... They never even bothered to turn up .... I waited forty minutes in the supermarket and thought "bugger this" and went home. It was my hope I'd run into the ringleader around town at some point (without 12 other poeple backing him up) ... I sure would have shown him what I thought of him  Not in a million years would I ring the police. What would be the point ?

Not reporting it means the cops don't have the info they need to target the right people.
Sent from my SM-G900I using AULRO mobile app
No reporting means the police dont' know where to look after you drag some poor soul off your premises you have "found" seriously injured and dump in the local park :wasntme:
Anyone here waited for police to turn up when in fear  It's an exercise in futility. Do what you need to do to keep your family safe. You'll be lucky if they even bother to turn up, let alone in any sort of time that will get you out of the merde.
If it's just me in trouble .... I always walk away, I've got nothing to prove.... Couldn't care less if people think I'm the biggest coward in the world... It's happened several times and will no doubt happen again. If people are threatening your wife and kids though.....
Loan Ranger is right though. People that can take care of themselves are almost always left alone... Poeple that know you ... Know what will happen if they mess with you. Anyone out to mug/car jack/whatever. Isn't going to pick someone that even remotely "looks" like they can take care of themselves. They will pick a soft target they have already decided will not fight back. eg: Are you going to try and steal a bikies harley from him (even if you have a weapon). It's never going to happen. Even the most drug addled brain is going to think "no way" and look for someone else.

Umm...interesting conversation!
Learnt a few things like what's a Ma Duece, and she's been around since the 1920's?!
Maybe DoubleChevs problem is he drives Citroens and stands out - the spelling is enough to make anyone mad - "Citroen Australia, its good to be different" - get with the herd :)
Has technology got us to the point where (normally) law abiding citizens should be able to carry a defensive item of a non lethal type, such as mace or taser? Would the Lindt cafe siege have turned out differently? Imagine the reduction in gun death rate in the US, but the satisfaction of being able to fight back without being slung into prison. The right of the people to carry non-lethal arms.
Yes, walk away as first course of action, but if 'cornered' then out with the tools?
Be very very cautious and careful, combined with that there's always at least three sides to ever tale.
I'll relate a good outcome that happened not too long ago.
One one of our flights one of the self loading freight was inappropriately touching a CC member. The CC member asked the person to stop...they didn't.
Another Pax sitting behind noticed what was going on and asked the CC member to get his jacket down from the O'head locker and show it to the offending pax.
The jacket belonged to a "Hells Angel" master of Arms(jacket rolled up for obvious reasons), not another problem for the remainder of the flight.
I'm happy for no-one to be armed .... with anything but there own wits. (that leaves the majority very un-armed  ). The issue with carrying any sort of weapon is ... will you use it ? I'm guessing it would be taken off me and used against me  Can you imagine how quickly things will escalate ... Rather than the normal pushing and shoving .... you will have people pulling weapons.
Australia has it really good. No weapons. None of us fear being held up in day to day living. We have absolutely zero fear of firearms. Very little fear of "armed" sort of aggression in any way. As soon as you arm the population... The "bad people" will also arm themselves... but with deadly weapons.
People these days say they want to carry a knife for self defense.... I always have one on my belt. It's all but useless for self defense... I wouldn't consider using it for a second. Just how do you think your going to extract and open a knife (or any sort of weapon) from a pocket/purse/belt/etc... unless you have a good 30seconds warning you will need it (which isnt' likely to ever happen).
Want to see me run ?? Pull a knife or weapon on me ..... You'll never see anyone run so fast if given a chance. You won't see me for dust!
