I don't fancy the American style plastic fantastic ride on mowers, so I bought a Greenfield. I have used them in the past, sometimes on 4' high grass. They cut it down where others push it over and drive over the top. I didn't have the $5000 for a new one, so I bought reasonable condition secondhand one. It might need some new cutter bearings as it has a bit of a rumble when the cutter is engaged.

Most of us tend to forget/ignore the fact that those are really LAWN Mowers & always try & do more than they are normally capable of, much to the annoyance of our Hip Pockets. You want to slash tall grass, You get a SLASHER
The days of me slashing paddocks here is long gone, so a put-put machine is all I need to do the outer areas
to make it safe & look presentable.

My previous & first one was a COX which was more agricultural but light on comfort.

Which is why I bought a Grillo. A recent vid after the rain in April/May. This is on a slope of around 25°.

Back to the fun of "mowing season again". And being driven bloody nuts by mowers that won't cut. I googled "sharpening mower blades" thinking possibly there was something I was missing that I needed to do....... But nah, just making sure they are straight and a quick rub over with a flap disc like I have been doing certianly seems the go.................... But, but, but ....

Talk about impressive. Maybe its time to upgrade the Grillo Watch how the deck floats without digging in over sharp crests.

The old Rover rancher here == 4 bent blades ..... straightened and sharpend (still doesn't cut for ****.... bloody onion grass).

Flail mower == Damn it ... 110 of the 156 blades were stuck against the drum and not cutting. So I removed them all and gave them a rub against the grinder across the back edge (where they were sticking in the blade hangers) and refitted. It does actually kinda shred the onion grass down. about 50% better than a rotary mower will (a rotary finishing mower is a much better cut otherwise). You gotta love a nice big mower so you don't have to spend endless hours on the mower.

I've still got the Grillo but, about 3 months ago, coughed up for a 1.8 metre cut width, flail for the tractor. I'm very happy with it even though I've only used it once as our grass is nongrowing at present plus the risk of sparking off a rock in tinder dry country.

It did a superb job on a large area of gum and wattle suckers that were up to a metre in height. A lot better for fire breaks than a slasher, too.

That ride-on flail looks the goods. Be interesting to see how well it cuts in reverse.

Mowing season? My lawn is mostly rocks, and whenever a little bit of green shows its head, the roos eat it the next night.

No mowing round here. There has been no significant rain since March, and the forecast is for a hot, dry, summer, with no significant rain for the rest of the year.
