People competent in old style grid management learnt how to handle wind power, now they're competent in handling wind power. Learning is what most intelligent people do to become competent in new systems. Heard of this technique, have you?

Re large solar and the grid - I work with this a lot and while large amounts of solar is a challenge to the supply authorities, they can cope with it and what is planned - it just means other things within the system need to be updated along the way in the zone subs where it becomes an issue. Not insurmountable by any means. When Islanding a section of the grid for maintenance and running it off large gensets it becomes more of an issue but again - a known one and they can work around this too. There are whole towns in rural Vic that output far more power than they use each day now - the grid was modified to cope - it’s usually around the old systems never being designed for current to run the opposite direction.

That's right, but the batteries can be anywhere within a grid area and add to stability. Households, small businesses and industrial premises can have batteries installed that can trade power to keep the grid stable too. And if the grid goes down it's still of use to the premises where it's installed, assuming its configured that way. The more redundancy is built into the grid the more reliable it becomes for every user.

Yes, decentralising storage is a great idea. It's the opposing trend to centralisation, which leads to monopolies and inflated prices.

a substation of them might work but, would lead to the same monopoly issue we have now.

these are reasonably common at major intersection bee. tollgate/bottom of the freeway has one.
