The combination of rooftop and utility scale solar met 100 per cent of demand in South Australia for the first time on Sunday, reaching a milestone that will surely be repeated many times over – and for longer periods – in the future.
The milestone was reached at 12.05pm grid time (Australian eastern standard time), with rooftop solar providing 992MW, or 76.3 per cent of state demand, and utility scale solar providing a further 315MW – meaning all three of the state’s big solar farms, Bungala 1m Bungala 2 and Tailem Bend were operating at full capacity.

It did only last about 10 minutes though. Not very useful.

EEvo , it does if you have a correctly set up solar battery system.

It will not be long before housing estates offer brand new homes with exactly that.

Many small communities around Australia are already doing it , going off grid , just like they were last century.

Time will come when the electricity companies have big battery banks in local sub stations to store surplus power generated during the day and release it at night, I think.

I agree it's not worth installing batteries at the moment, as the current cost of about $1000 per KWh needs to fall to around $300, and the federal government is not supporting the battery option, but the details do vary around the country. I've been watching the evolving Solar Choices comparison here:

Will be interesting to see how they go with that.
Our site would drain the current Tesla battery in 15 minutes.
