was announced months ago. i think its just been up scaled a bit.

Now we got big storms in Queensland, thousands without power, towers down, looking like days with without power. Thank god for coal and gas. , should keep the topic on track for a few more months

Didn't take out the whole state, though.
This is the thing, there was a storm up somewhere north of Adelaide and the power goes out all over the state including the states south east where it was sunny with blue skies. Queensland gets a category 4 cyclone and only 40,000 houses lose power.

I've read about 90,000 on the gold coast alone and no power in Bowen for at least 3 days!

You mean the intense low pressure system that tracked across Victor Harbor the down the SE coast while causing destructive gales for a 300km swathe to the north then behind it.
