It may surprise you, but the job ain't finished yet. Much of your energy cost is from gas generation and that cost will likely reduce with time as gas is replaced.

most of the bill is from transmission, not generation.

If most of your bill is from transmission then its from power company's overspending on infrastructure that's not required because its a massive cash cow as they are regulated in power cost but much less regulated in works on transmission line's.
and here are articles from all sides of politic's just incase you think its a lefty or right thing.

The way we use power has changed, but old turbine's cant react to this as it can take 24 hours or longer to ramp up to max generation, even newer gas turbine's still will take 6 to 12 hours to build enough steam to react to supply.
this is where stored hydro can really work in it can go from 0 to full capacity in pretty much the time it takes for the gate to open and water to start flowing so generally under 1min.
is their still a place for gas or coal yes their is but its not cost effective to build or refurbish old power plants for a PRIVATE company as their pay back is very long term and cost's are ever rising to keep coal and gas working, If it was still in government hands you prob could argue that its in the national interest to build some coal power plants with a life expediency of 20-30 years to ensure power supply is adequate untill the more renewable type's of power generation can fully replace it.
i would not expect many fossil fuel power station to be online past 2050

Actually, the greatest proportion of your payment is taken by your energy retailer. The money handlers.
About twice as much as the "gold plated" distribution and almost ten times as much as transmission.

    In my case totally agree.

Just paid 2 bills today, the one meter I use racked up 12c of power per day over 3 months and the bill was $157.

    The other one was $115.

Nothing has changed transmission wise, but the trees do get pruned 3 times a year, usually on a weekend, ha ha.

profit is not part of the cost to create electricity.
but your point is well taken. if its the biggest proportion of my bill, then removing costly gas wont do much.

and yes i was naughty. i put transmission and distribution in the same basket.

I don't think you'll even notice the cost of the diesel generators this summer.
