All perfectly legal according to the rules set up for the sale of public utilities to privately owned companies. Better still, the new Tesla battery (Hornsdale Power Reserve) is using its non contracted 30MW component to rake in the cash by buying cheap and selling dear.

i wasnt saying it was illegal.

interesting just before it hit negative price, the battery was outputting. i would of expected the opposite.

The publicly available data stream isn't detailed fine enough for you to be able to discern that for sure.

    interesting article (behind paywall)

SOUTH Australian wholesale power prices continue to rise, signalling households could soon face further bill hikes.

But the increase of 6.8 per cent so far this financial year is far lower than the 64 per cent surge recorded between 2015/16 and 2016/17.'

Households and small businesses do not pay the wholesale spot price but changes can be reflected in energy retailers’ decisions on rates. Generation accounts for about 40 per cent of the total cost of power bills.

SA average pool price for Jan was $158. Nearly double last year. And last year was 80% higher than year before (2016).

Is there actually a bit of load shedding going on?

Have since found out that there was just shy of 1400 MW available at the time, not including the 'reserve'.

Makes sense because 50 odd thousand households were disconnected.

Rednecks still blame things like shutting Hazlewood for the problem.
