damm wind power isnt stable

Possible intervention to manage power system security in South Australia (SA) Region -21/11/18.


The synchronous generating units expected to be synchronised in SA from 0000 hrs 22/11/2018 to 1330 hrs 22/11/2018 in Pre-dispatch published at 1430 hrs 21/11/2018 are inadequate to maintain sufficient system strength in SA and hence a secure operating state.


AEMO currently estimates that, in the absence of sufficient market response by 1800 hrs 21/11/2018, AEMO may need to intervene by issuing a direction requiring one or more SA synchronous generating units to operate or remain synchronised to maintain power system security in SA

Whippy whoo. Wind power looks to be curtailed to 1000MW instead of the usual 1250MW, other than that gas power and usage figures aren't high.

Local power just went out, about 7000 customers have no power. No sign of the grid being out of control yet.

Edit: now up to 8300 customers, right on track for the peak wind prediction I made earlier.

Edit: Now up to 13600 customers, gonna be a busy night for the linesmen.

Thanks. Just lit the wood fire, the missus is cooking with gas, the backup battery is on, just need to check the juice in the genny. Not exactly a hard life, a bit like glam camping really.

We get blackouts several times a year mainly due to pole faults thats why I always have 2x 3kva gensets fueled and ready to go on a mo.ents notice.
As long as I have power to the freezers and fridges and the missus can watch home and away its no biggie really.

Had to laugh at the national weather forecast today. It ranged from blazing sunshine through high winds, storms and possible snow. All seasons in one day. It's a big country.

Power outages are back up to 27,000 customers as the arse end of the storm whips Adelaide. Our power's been back on since 7pm but it could go out again. The wind is absolutely howling around our place. On the National Radar the storm looks like a two headed snake eating both Adelaide and Melbourne.




The big difference between this storm and the last one in 2016 is that the storm centre is about 200km further south, so the power lines of the northern districts aren't being hit as hard.
