The unescapable FACT is, that in Victoria anyway, don't know much about other States, but in Victoria anyway, people are locking their doors, buying baseball bats (THEY REALLY ARE), and there are vigilante groups being formed,...check Caroline Springs.
Don't believe me?...Fine,...I'm used to that, from the "Do-Gooders" that we are coping,....WE ARE NOT.
Teen 13+ crimes,....actually KILLING people, car jackings, street fights, Police abuse, abuse/fight situations outside courts, teens assaulting Police, druggies driving cars, assaulting police/paramedics etc etc.
AND, many, maybe most of these crimes, being committed by ferals who are already on bail (when they shouldn't be).
The Police are not to blame, I dont know how they put up with the abuse they cop, and the way the courts take an absolutely weak "do-gooder" attitude to offenders that the Police bring before the courts, particularly repeat offenders.
Law & Order "Stuffed"?...To put it mildly, It is certainly being undermined.
Pickles.
After a day like mine I thought I would just have a squizz at ALRO and lo an behold the "L&O is stuffed" thread, is going great guns...
Yep fear is taking over... Just had a chat today with another ex green, and we where discussing a break in and attempted assault that he experienced recently... Then he realised I was the one that had the armed robbery...
Absolutely amazing, here we are discussing how both of us didnt know that the perps had done previous robberies... Now the interesting thing is, both perps are aussies, both had the idea of an easy target and lost... But alas, we have training for such situations but of an extreme nature.. Imagine the little old ladies and gentlemen that have enough trouble making a cuppa..
All this blame is not going to fix the issues and we cant be there for our neighbours 24/7... Extra laws have been applied before and not worked, harsher penalties cant work when its better to be in goal than out(actually aged care costs more and gives less), and the freedoms of having everything paid for is criminal...
Trying to target groups don't work... The demographics of some areas around cities, may favour certain traits, but tell me, how do you target a certain group in country areas... The only trait out bush, is druggies... Australian born, no hopers with an attitude of "I dont care"...
I dont have any solution or answer to the problems, I just know that increasing the number of laws or fines or punishment, is not going to work... The law abiding citizens keep suffering and crims really dont care about laws...
My ideas are to give more freedom to law abiding citizens, thus the crims are against people with support... Maybe the right to defend oneself on your property... Not firearms but within basic means, pepper etc etc or even fists... with no repercussions... This is an argument with very little solutions unless people are prepared to petition the powers that be...
PS You could purchase a Truckies tyre checker... Very good for checking tyres so you know there pumped up and can be useful for other things that require an item suitable for robust strength...
I use to have a heavy Aluminium pipe to use, also used it for tying loads down...
Pickles trust you to try and keep this thread on topic!
Ha ha hahow could I have not mentioned a Unicorn
love it.
Hey pickles here is an idea if highway patrol grew some balls and weren't so scared about their pensions and stood up to their superiors and refused to revenue raise and did what they swore an oath to do, then maybe they could get out there and prevent real crimes against humanity not hiding behind trees trying to catch you exceeding a speed limit. Whoah don't get me started.
Pickles, I get where you are coming from.
I've noticed the marked increase in car jackings, home invasions and other violent crime. I've seen it first hand. I've noticed the increasing number of times the V/Line trains are met by police at stations and a man of African apperance is escorted off the train.
Two weeks after we had dinner at a pub with Digger, there was an attempted car jacking by four men of African appearance. The victim drove off with one of the offenders on the bonet, although there are some here who would argue the fellow on the bonet was the victim.
I think you have to live in Melbourne to fully understand what is going on.

Many of my friends are very concerned. You used to be able to knock on their door and walk in. Now, their doors are locked. Some have even installed chains on the doors.
The police are trying to do their job, but, whenever they stop a new Australian for something as simple as a random breath test, they cry they are racially targeted.
Young South Sudanese 'constantly stopped' by police, as community grapples with Apex stigma - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Now, I call Deng's story a load of bull. Why? Simple, the police never ask for registration papers. I should know. I have been stopped many times by the police. Some have been documented on this site. They have never asked me for my registration papers. Check out the Vicroads website. You are not even required to carry your registration papers.
Deng has been watching too much American tv.
I think Deng has an agenda.
Then, on the news the other night, there was footage from a security camera showing men of African appearance violently robbing a petrol station staffed by Indians (probably students). The petrol station attendants were rather scarred and cowering to avoid being seriously hurt by these violent thugs.
Yes, Pickles, I don't like the direction Melbourne is heading. It used to be the jewell in the multicultural crown.
These people should have the law of the land applied to them. If they were born here, put them in our gaols. If they were not, send them back to the country whence they came.
It is the law.
Reading that, it says "they don't know what to do".
Well here's a thought, try teaching your kids, the old ways of your old country, are NOT how you behave here in our country.
It also states that a lot were born here, so guess what, they're called Australians, straight up,, so who is it that's teaching them their violent ways,, realistically this can only come from the older folk and younger men, (as opposed to boys) in their own community.
The media won't give them a "skin colour", so as not to rock the boat,, but guess what, we're not colour blind, and even on black and white video footage, you can see it for yourself. Most of us aren't stupid.
As for things like farm robberies etc, this unfortunately has been going on for quite some time. We've been targeted at our farm on several occasions, but strangely enough, it been more about tools, sheep dip and the like. I can't say I've seen or heard much about houses being trashed or targeted. However, for a few years now, the farmers in our area have been locking doors etc. It'll keep the majority out, but it won't do much to keep an arsehole out, and we seem to be getting more of them.
My partners second job is at a bottle shop. If someone steals something, they are not allowed to even confront them. Crims have it even easier than before now.
Not confronting is standard work safety practice - keeping people safe is more important than replacing stolen stuff.
No need for cops to ask for rego papers as they already know if your rego number is valid, if the vehicle is reported stolen and if the owner of the vehicle is a licensed driver before they walk up to talk. They ask for the driver's licence to check if you are the registered owner.
I saw an announcement the other day of a big increase in Victorian police numbers, so they must think that is the answer.
I guess we could single out groups to blame, but the real answer is to get people into jobs. However, globalization and computerisation are reducing unskilled jobs, plus our economy is sluggish.
Time to train more baristas! Drink more coffee to keep people in jobs.

G'Day.
I know a few people in the Highway Patrol, all TOP blokes.
They would LOVE to do as you say, but they are NOT allowed to, and they cannot do as they would like to, as they would have a few years ago.
There are hoons in Melbourne that actually taunt the Police by doing burnouts etc in the sight of a Highway Patrol car, & then speed off at great speed, knowing that the Police won't / can't chase them.
Living in Melbourne, this & other anti social stuff is in the Paper EVERY day.
Mick Marsh tells it how it REALLY is. Read his post, and you'll know the reality of the situation.
Pickles.
Perhaps Deng's driving style attracts police attention.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
