I think you're in denial.

Here you go:
Victoria Police sacks three officers, disciplines nine others over the production of racist stubby holders - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
The police have form in relation to this, my recollection is that the police in Fitzroy did similar things in relation to Aboriginals in the early 90s.
The more recent and worrying one was this:
Disgraced senior ethics cop subject of previous racism complaints
For context, Brett Guerin was the officer sent into Flemington to sort out the complaints by the African community about racist behaviour by the police. And in that context have a read of some of his comments about Africans that The Age located and published in the article.
Mate, I don't doubt that for a minute - but I do genuinely and seriously doubt the motivations of some of the media and some politicians. The fact that the National Party in Sydney was infiltrated by Nazis (as in, genuine, real Nazis who were throwing white power salutes) and that they didn't notice until it was pointed out to them doesn't give me a lot of confidence.
I think that the only people that are in denial are the ones here that think there isnt a problem and think eveything is "hunky dory".
The system is Not perfect or even very good and ignoring a problem Never makes it go away.
Despite the best efforts of the lefties this softly softly approach to criminals hasn't worked, If it did work we wouldn't have the problems we still have now.
Argue all you like about various statistics this softly softly approach has Not made a huge differance in the crime figures no matter how much you look at it.
Now that's in denial[bigwhistle]
We are never getting rid of crime Trout. Just trying to reduce it. Cant lose sight of that in this discussion.
Cheers
I agree.
The various drug and social welfare programs that are now in place ARE making a differance But giving people multiple chances that reoffend habitually is NOT working.
I am all for giving people a second chance But a 3rd 4th 5th etc. Not so much, Some people are beyond helping its just the way they are and wasting valuable time and money on these is pointless just take them off the streets for awhile to keep the rest of society safe.
The softly softly approach Can work But for career crims and nutters all it does is to give them loopholes to evade doing time.
Cuts in funding drug and other support programme have meant that some people don't even get any support.
Mind you, we must acknowledge that not everyone responds well to support programme. Some people continue to make bad choices. But it's better to try and have mixed results than to do nothing and only have bad results.
Trout and Pickles we are never going to agree on this stuff but that is OK. And moaning about sentencing on here isnt going to help. I honestly think you should become part of an action group and lobby government. Alternatively you could go study Criminology and enter the system and work hard from the inside (come out of retirement Trout...you known you want to).
Cheers
