So, what you are telling me is it's the lawyers that are making manufacturing in this country expensive with over regulation and forcing them off shore. It's the lawyers who are destroying the jobs of the low paid members of the community whilst they are happily quaffing their Grange.

They are making manufacturing more costly here compared to China for example yes. Unions for the wages. Price of living in a 1st world country and workers generally being able to come home at night.

Those bloody Grange swillers! When will they stop!

    Cheers

You will likely get back to me and say no if I was guilty I would take it like a man and not retain a lawyer....go to prison for life for dangerous driving causing death from momentary inattention. Oh well...come the revolution. We all know lawyers are to blame trout. They are also largely to blame for safe workplaces if you ever enjoyed those.

    Cheers
The lawyers had **** all to do with workplace safety, The unions did all tbe donky work there the lawyers just cashed in on tbe paperwork.
Momentary inatention or drug ****ed the result was the same and it took a persons life FFS 2 years isn't justice either way.
We are far too tolerant and the scumbags are taking full advantage of this, Screw that time to make people pay for their offences in a meaningful way instead of swatting tbem with a feather duster.
Maybe if tne judges that let people off lightly were to be held to account if that person reoffended they would think twice about their left wing tendencies when handing down their sentencing.
You only get one shot at life, Aim well

Can't agree Trout but good to see us talking about something other than (moaning about) sentencing.

The properties are overpriced and force sold to (overseas & interstate) investors who don't know the real value. The overpricing is used to subsidise rents for the period of the guarantee. They love Centrelink clients as the rent is deducted from welfare payments using the Centrepay scheme and paid direct to the agents who in turn deduct their commission and pass on the balance to Victoria, Taiwan, Singapore.

By the way, Ogden St. and surrounds in the 60's was a very rough and tough area. I worked for the gas company briefly then and had to do disconnects and reconnects, and remove meter and close off service at main to stop the customers illegally hooking up and getting free gas. Grovely, Chermside, Stafford were housing commission and we did a lot of work in these.
I learned to defend myself in Stafford Heights. I read where the Africans are taking over Melbourne suburbs. Would never had happened back in the day, in Ogden St and surrounds. There were three families, we lived with the Laverty's, the Tanners were on one side, Crocker's on the other. The Tanners had lovely daughters, the Laverty's [ my cousins] were fighting Irish, the Crocker's their competition for the girls. Many a donnybrook took place, but let an outsider poke their nose in, it was all in together, and sort the bastards out. When we came down from Rockhampton, my first day at Stafford Heights State School, my Mum dressed me, made me wear shoes, and gave me strict instructions on not to get into fights [ my history at Central Boys School in Rocky wasn't good in that area] Well, walked thru the gate, a group of likely lads walked up to me, said " what, think you are special, wearing shoes ,mug? " Long story short, the cousins jumped in, fight started, up to the headmaster's office. They all got 6 cuts, then the headmaster said to me ' Put your hand out young fella " to which I replied that I had not fought, on my mothers instructions. To which he said " I know, , this is for not sticking up for your cousins.". A smart man, he knew if I went away unscathed, my reputation would be mud. All of the boys in that episode ended up great mates. Such was early Brisbane.

To put this subject to rest, perhaps we should ask the opinions of the esteemed legal fraternity living in such places as " Noble Park" (Why wouldn't you live in a place with a name like that?), Inala, Dandenong etc.

We should put this to rest, because for every " law and order is stuffed " we could find the alternative, if we wanted to look. Perhaps the poster should have said " law and order is stuffed in my area. " Look after your own area, support your local coppers. Stick together, look out for each other, could be a good start. The answer is community. Get off the internet, and into your community. Life does not thrive on the internet.

Good story Bob,, family means a lot.

I'm not sure what it's like anywhere else now, but where I am in Melbourne, most of my neighbors can't even speak English, and if they do, they don't want to talk to anyone,, and even Aussies are becoming this way inclined. You can barely get a return "hello" out of them. And family,, hmm,, mines miles away, doing they're own thing I guess.

Back in Albury where I lived there before I rented it out,, the street was all Australian, and we (Neighbors) would have been able to sort things out in the early years,, easily I think. A couple of years before I moved out, the crap with the "you can't do this, you can't do that" started to really sink in with the general public,, and people started to become very distant. I would think in the same street now, you'd be lucky if anyone stepped out of the door to see what the commotion was about,, let alone step in and help get it sorted.
Due to legal battles that could leave you broke, or being called racist, or a bully or whatever,, people now won't step in. If you've seen the news about here in Melb, people who stepped out last weekend as a house was being destroyed, were all violently threatened one way or another, and even the police were unable to slow it. Its just disgusting behavior,, full stop.

Of course, ten years ago for me, was a very different story. Now, I, like many my age, we could no longer step in and help anyone probably even if our own lives depended on it. Hard work for our goals for a good life has left us with bad backs, shoulders etc. The older we get, the harder it gets. And these days, a lot seem to be carrying weapons like knives etc, which makes the risk even higher for a bad ending.
Still, I do enjoy being a grumpy old man these days
