The ONLY certain way to stop these criminals from reoffending is to keep the bastards locked up and this is where or judiciary is failing to protect our society by handing out meaningless sentances that keep these people on the streets where they simply reoffend again.

That would all depend on their crime, Home detention for rockspider priests and community service for some offenders just isn't working.
Sentances should be a deterrant first and rehabilitation should come in as a poor second.

And to make things worse, we have a new "Chief of Traffic", runs the Highway Patrol & all that stuff. Only been in the job, TWO DAYS, and He's loudly announcing in his 1st Media appearance, "We'll be looking at more point to point speed cameras, more radar, lower speed limits on Country Roads, and we'll be taking advice on lower speed limits anywhere" etc etc. Of course this is all good for P.R. & it's easy money, penalties are massive in relation to what crims/offenders are getting, or NOT getting for serious assaults, home invasions etc,....NO excuses allowed even for the most minor offence.
And yeah, I've heard all the "well just don't speed" before, so don't bring that one up. We've got a very powerful car, & I don't speed, but I tell you what, on some of our Vic Roads, the speed limits change regularly, you could be in a 100 zone, then it'll be 80, then maybe 90, then 60 in a very short space, so ya've really gotta have ya're eyes open. Our car has a heads up display which I initially thought would be a total ****?....WRONG,...it's really good, because you can keep your eye on your speed without taking your eyes off the road.
By the way, I DO NOT blame the Police, they're doing a top job and under more pressure than ever. But our Judicial system, judges, laws,...getting weaker & weaker, & riddled with do-gooders. Check out the rap sheet on the "person" that murdered the most lovely person in the world in Bourke St recently.

Yet you lot still try to convince us that Melbourne is Australia's most livable city! If that's so, why are there so many Victorians moving to Queensland?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Victorians are welcome in Qld., Ian. Some of their attitudes are not.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Good point,....... but I'm not.
I'm sick & tired of seeing TERRIBLE, FRIGHTENING stuff in the Media every day. I'm looking over my shoulder all the time, I see riotous behaviour on trains, louts hanging about looking for trouble, and stuff happening all the time, AND IT'S GETTING WORSE, and please don't link the Courts and the Police.
The Police are doing a HUGE job, it's the judiciary that are the trouble,..the Police have to put up with repeat offenders out on bail, and if they put even one little step out of bed, like "react" against an ever increasing number of aggressive ferals who try to do them harm & couldn't give a stuff about anybody or anything, they're "under investigation".
Thank goodness we now have PSOs on train stations, and they are kept pretty busy, but they do give one some sense of security,..the do-gooders didn't want them armed, but they need to be, and they are.
I certainly won't allow my wife out at night alone, & there are places only 4 or 5 ks from me where I wouldn't want to go day or night.
And as I've said before, it's getting worse.

Maybe what you need to do is a media detox, just stop obsessively devouring every bad news story that's fed to you and look at the ordinary people getting on with their unremarkable lives. Some media companies are simply bad for your health.

Agree 100%. Look around you. Ordinary people living ordinary lives, working hard to make a life for their children, outnumber the bad news stories. But their stories are not told, in general, because it doesn't sell newspapers, or make money for media outlets. Look close to home, for the good news stories, for the good people.
