Not as safe... but I have a corded dinky little toy makita electric chainsaw. Slower than a petrol saw, but nothing short of brilliant...... You do however need a powerpoint nearby.

I actually figure from a safety perspective the small ( especially electric) chainsaws are far more dangerous than a a dirty big grunty petrol engined saw. As it's so light, effortless and quiet to use, your not going to be half as careful as you would be with a big petrol saw. You can easily reach above your head and use it one handed for pruning for example (no I don't do this ... but I could!).

I was told years ago that some Americans who came to Australia to compete in woodchop competitions commented afterwards that they now knew why some Australian trees are called ironbark.

If you want to prune a branch properly without getting epicormic regrowth (poorly attached branches that sprout when branches not pruned correctly) or rot into the attached limb or trunk, you need to prune to the Branch Collar

This gizmo would not allow you to get the cut in the right place and you would be pruning off the regrowth all the time.

Nice toy but not very practical to do the job properly
