SupporterIs the big wet on its way in Brisbane again this year.
The wife wanted to put all our Christmas decorations away this morning, it should have been a couple of hours job tops .
We went into the spare bedroom around 6am to find the room full of ants. They had even started making nests in the grand children's books on the shelves & laying eggs.
So I have spent the last 8 hours spraying & cleaning the room. They had also built nests in the alum window frames .
The books I had to go through all of them , page by page & wipe the ants out , probably around 30 books.
The ants were over the walls & ceiling so I sprayed with surface spray to kill the ants then washed the walls down then another spray of surface spray.
Out side the whole ceiling of the pergola is covered with ants & seam to be moving to higher ground.
The last two times we had ants in the house in large numbers was in1974 & 2011 just before the floods.
So I think we are in for a lot more rain.
Is any one else having problems with ants at the moment?

SupporterI'm in Perth and we were having a problem with ants last year down the bathroom side of the house. We get pest control as a part of our yearly termite inspection. He treated for ants and said if they came back again we should get pool salt and sprinkle it around as it keeps them away.Originally Posted by 1950landy

i came home to find the concrete path leading to my front verandah almost totally covered in ants.. it was literally black...
never seen that before!

SupporterThats what the walls in the room were like. I think I may have stoped them , only a couple of dead ones under the window this morning. We spent the morning washing all the bed linen today incase some had got into the bed.

it's a constant battle, we have used about 20lts of surface spray and heaps of ant powder in the last couple of weeks
if you leave ANYTHING edible out in the kitchen it's a gonner overnight.....then you gotta clean up the ants.
we constantly wipe down the benches.
mud wasps are the next scourge.
When we opened up the camper to go away we found a nest of big black ants, which we sprayed.
Only good thing about big black ants is they eat the eggs of white ants.

Naah, ants are always russian around but yesterday was the orthodox xmas day so they held a mass in the nearest ant cathedral.

SupporterProblem is there is no food in the room were we have the ants .The best thing I have found is the ant bates,mthey seam to like them .
I think we need tomget a pet Echidna
