Fordson Major E27N tractors, had a special hole in the rh side radiator support supposedly to help in holding one half of early spark plugs so they could be disassembled and cleaned.
Some N models had them too.
Apparently at the request of the Land Girls during WW2 in England.

The upper hole is for the headlight support bracket that was an option.

Original european two piece spark plugs are really rare now. Regular cleaning plugs was a cause of ****ty power kerosene.
That fuel isn't readily available these days, best I came up with was a 60/40 mix aviation gas and premium petrol.

Of course they did & were fitted into their jacksie. A quick flick of the switch & they'd go like a Jet along the flat.

Also as I recall, Jockeys were not allowed to touch hands with anyone else until they had been past the Stewards & weigh in first at the end of a race.

It was believed at one stage whips contained a battery which drove the whip like a Cattle Prod so no-one was to physically touch them in case it was passed off to another bloke who hid it somewhere.

Not anymore it seems. It made the papers all so very long ago.

One of the above is bull****, you guess.

Seems it may still be going on.

The shocking use of 'jiggers' in horse racing

Our olde 1924 FIAT 501 had large plugs & they were "cleaned" with a ground tapered hacksaw blade. Still not good.

The local servo bloke here told me some years ago that the Sandblasting of the Porcelain part of the plug caused etching & buildup of crap created problems. Not sure about the Compressed Air Testing, that may not have been as accurate as was hoped for. Anyway $15 for a set of four plugs is more beneficial.

They were good for charging up a condenser , then throw it too the 1st year apprentice for a bit of a laugh The test buttons always got sand down the side of them , you needed to make sure the it had popped up after testing plugs before you attempted to remove the alligator clip from the plug top other wise you would light your day.
