A quick conversation with the officer changed plan. Cooks kept working the bbq. All others were lined up and as the aircraft made a close pass to photograph them they dropped trousers to flash brown eyes at the plane while the cooks waved. They wrote to the the Egyptian airforce asking for a copy of the photo but never had a reply

I doubt the veracity of that yarn because Submariners are rarely known to wear trousers.

Could not find the story. 1990s I think. Front page news. Still makes me chuckle.

About the same era there was a camera in a car that flashed a woman as she drove past (in Vic from memory).

Her speedo suggested she wasn't speeding, so she went around the block and it flashed again............... around the block again, flashed again.

She stops and walks to the camera car. Operator winds down the window, she says 'I was not speeding and the camera went off 3 times'.

He says 'you weren't and you weren't wearing a seatbelt either'.

Driving a school bus one morning, maybe 2000, when I went past one. Flash ( those days the flash was a box about the size of a kero tin with something that looked like the headlight off an old Fergie tractor bolted on top ) went off. Speeding with a bus load of school kids is almost a capital offence, so I wnt back to see why. Bloke says " It's ok, I was just calibrating". Gee, thanks.

The cook looks like an ex-sub guy I know (Fitzy), who really was a cook on one of those. He says it's not him.

A long time ago Fitzy and another ex- navy guy I know (Gus, diver) were in Sydney on one of the Heads looking out over the entrance to the harbour after a huge night out on the turps and couple of new tattoos.

A sub cruised out the heads and Gus casually asked 'Aren't you supposed to be on that?'

'Yes' said Fitzy.
