A car driving erratically has hit multiple pedestrians and shots have been fired in Melbourne's busy CBD, according to emergency services and eyewitness reports.
Ambulance Victoria told The New Daily they had received multiple calls around 1:30pm reporting a car had hit pedestrians in Bourke Street Mall.
Ambulance Victoria also said there had been multiple reports of people injured, but had no details on numbers or type of injuries.
Multiple images and videos posted to Twitter showed one person, possibly a suspect, being detained by police alongside a red car with a damaged front.
A Victoria Police statement read: ?Police are aware that a number of people have been injured in the CBD. The exact circumstances surrounding the events are still being determined and we will provide further information when it comes to hand.?
A witness told The New Daily he saw a red car being chased by police, which then 'mounted the curb in front of a shop and then it ploughed through a crowd hitting people?.
The New Daily's reporter on the scene witnessed at least three people being attended to by paramedics.
A woman who works in Royal Arcade, a mall adjacent to Bourke Street Mall, told The New Daily people were terrified.
?We heard a loud bang and then people screaming. I heard the car driving down Bourke St mall. Then we looked out and saw a red car with two police cars chasing.
?Once people heard the bang they all started running through Royal Arcade and through Bourke St mall.?
Buildings nearby the incident are in lockdown. A nearby office employee, who works in 570 Bourke Street, said her floor was in lockdown after the emergency alarm went off, with security telling employees to stay on their floor and keep away from windows.
A Myer staffer inside the Bourke Street department store told The New Daily that there was ?police activity? in the Bourke Street mall.
At 1.45pm an announcement over the loudspeakers inside the store was advising shoppers that they were 'shutting the front doors? where there was no access.
A video posted to Twitter showed someone being arrested but it is not known how this person related to the incident, or if there were multiple suspects being pursued.

Earlier, numerous police cars could be heard pursuing a car through the CBD, according to Sky News.
The car chase had begun at Federation Square before it drove through Bourke Street Mall.

This concluded right outside the building I work in at about the same time I would be on my lunchtime stroll / Friday donut hunt.

As luck would have it, I had knee surgery yesterday so I am off work recovering at home.

If I hadn't decided to run for a train back in November I wouldn't have triggered an injury I did myself when I was a teenager.

It's odd how such a string of small events could have made such a difference.

Well it seems that there are 3 people killed and about 20 people injured including a child. The guy is also linked to an earlier stabbing in the southern metro area. What was in this man mind to do something like this.Heather

I suspect it might be drug related. Maybe ice.
I heard he was doing a bit of circle work at Fed Square. He can't have been in a rational state of mind.

    From a news report.
Chief Commissioner Ashton said the suspect had come to police attention "on many occasions" recently.

"We have mental health and drug-related issues in the background of this particular person. He has been coming to our attention more recently over recent days in relation to assaults, family violence-related assaults. He also was charged by us over the course of last weekend." Words escape me.

That'a an American term. One shot, one kill. The return of the death penalty must be considered.
