WOW. Lake Louise up in the Rockies. Isn't this beautiful.
Kelsey is refusing to do an open water training swim.

Thought Lake Louise was beautiful. Then we went to Lake Moraine. These photos are not photoshopped. It is this colour and this beautiful.
I hope with my phone screen and dodgy eyesight I picked some good ones.

We got to Lake Louise very early. Top parking spot. Temp was 1 degree. The water was very cold. It's permanently fed by nearby glaciers.
Lake Moraine slightly later in the day I dropped the girls and got a parking nearly 2km back up the entrance road. When we were leaving the access was closed as too full. It certainly pays to not be lazy and get an early start on these places.
We are now in Banff. Very pretty but very touristy. I'm waiting in the car while they do their thing.

You just gave me a 'Flash back' to Diving there in 1986. (Vancouver and Victoria Island) Only place I got hyperthermia as did the whole diving crew from HMAS Hobart.
Luckily swimming, riding and especially running generates lots heat. It is a shock until you warm up. How cold is the lake?
Snow Swimming - YouTube
FAQ had it "The average water temperature ranges from 19-23°C (69-71°F) in Lake Okanagan during August."
not too bad at all. I think the thermal layer in Vancouver harbour had about 4 degrees at 3 metres down
Re your PICs. It is amazing but now I am wondering if my little girl will grow over me. Have a ball.
Navy diver I'm sure you have a lot more cold water experience than us. I felt the same way that running and swimming generates heat and should keep you warm. Her coach has advised that for longer distances its worse. Due to your full body being submersed you can also lose a lot of body heat depending how long you're in the water. Not so dramatic on a shorter sprint distance. He gave an example of an athlete who had spent a fortune getting to an international triathlon only to retire after swim leg due to extreme hyperthermia. Hypa/hypo ? Can never remember which is cold.
I am in awe of the abilities of SAS and Navy Divers. I think you lot a a little tougher than the average athlete. And would also handle cold better than most.
The lakes today were freezing. Dipped our feet in at Penticton. Not too bad. We're hoping for not having to use a wetsuit. However still torn, having now trained a little in a wetsuit they are much quicker than without.
