    SSShhhh, you'll give them ideas...

Its a joke, like banning diesel trains and using electric... The city folk see electric and how clean it is, the country see another boiler or three added to the power station and a bigger coal pile...

Well with the massive drop in british people even getting their licence it probably wont be a massive shift.
But unless there is a massive break through in battery's it wont be viable.
Only other way would be to have battery swap stations where you go and they swap ya battery out like a drill battery so in a minute or 2 you have a fully charged battery.
Btw it wont work in australia not enough population density they may just ban non electric cars from city centres.
But all thus is doing atm is mocinf the polution from one area to another in a place like australia places that have much more non carbon electricity is where you can actully get an environment improvement by reducing co2

They have also passed a law giving their government the power to require servos to offer charging points. I predict shopping centres and other places will also offer them and make money charging motorists to recharge their vehicles.

Cars already queue at servos to get a 2minute fill. Imagine the queues when each car takes 2hours. Practical???Britain to ban diesel and petrol vehicles

    It's already happening here.

Electric car charging stations to be built across Queensland

I notice the first stations are all along the coastal strip though. That's where most of us live, of course.

Why would you have chargers just at service stations? The only reason that service stations are what they are is to manage all the dangerous fuels in one place. Chargers can be anywhere there's decent electricity infrastructure so most people will either slow charge at home, at work or at the shops. A business like Bunnings would do well with a bunch of free chargers out front to keep the customers coming in for goodies. Service stations will evolve as needed to cope with the demand, nothing will look exactly the same as today. Oh and fast chargers are around 1/2 an hour currently for a decent boost, not 2 hours so who knows what the layout will be in 5 years time.

Takes 30 minutes for an 80% charge, I read. It will become as common to plug in our cars as our phones. Electricity companies will be competing to sell us plans. It's all doable.

Think about where all this electricity is coming from before you decide that electric cars are the Silver Bullet.
Everyone is paying too much for electricity at the moment, can you imagine the cost if we had to also power our cars from the grid.
