Quoted to fix with new roof and bonnet are just over 14k. QBE is electing to write it offRed book apparently has my D3 2005SE with only 370,000km at about 15k I know I cannot get one like mine for 15k
That it has a Bull Bar, Mitch Hitch, Long Range tanks, Rock sliders, UHF, LAMS, Pioneer GPS/Sat Nav/Blue Tooth radio, roof racks, Light bar, 5 17inch MTs and 5 18inch ATs still needs negotiation
The $20k or more of Insurance premiums I have paid over the last 10 years + makes me feel a little ripped of right now or it could just me being grumpy
Had planned to take it past the half million km before starting to consider a upgrade. Tough to think a little ice has put me in this spot after so many river crossings, Mud, Snow, dirt, rocks and mountains survived so well.
That doesn't surprise me. I heard similar stories a few years back. Check that it's not already on the WOVR and the registration cancelled.
Should you buy "the wreck" back, it will need a costly inspection to take it off the WOVR and a roadworthy to register it again.
If repairs are $14k and thy are going to write it off, I suspect they are going to pay you less than $14k.
I've heard they normally write cars off if the roof is damaged, as body panels can be replaced relatively easily, but the roof is a cut and weld job.
You could see what they've valued the salvage value of your car. You may then decide to buy it, and possibly get it repaired. You would of course need to find the "right man" to do the job.
Pickles.
Not yet on the WOVR. Offered 18k less excess and then if I wanted 7k to buy it back. I was assured I can have/get third party insurance and as it is not a Statutory Write off it would be possible to keep it registered. (road worthy inspection would be needed)
I got a puncture which is not repairable so the car will have no spare. Front control arms are in need of work now. Have to make up my mind in seven days. Several at auction already next week which I will look at before making a decision. Met a gent last week who picked up a very neat 2007 with a lot lower km than mine for $20k. If I let it go I am going to take Dual battery and controller, Second fuel tank, LAMs, Double din Sat Nav and UHF out and give it to them. Roof rack and Light bar were already off. Crook with myself about that as roof would have most likely been fine if it was on like it was for the last two years. It used about an extra 2 litres per 100km fuel with the roof rack on.
Fill and vinyl wrap the roof, new bonnet and no one would be the wiser .
MY08 TDV6 SE D3- permagrin ooh yeah
2004 Jayco Freedom tin tent
1998 Triumph Daytona T595
1974 VW Kombi bus
1958 Holden FC special sedan
Agree and thank. I will see if I can do that to my or a new one depending on the auction results over the next week or two. With about 250+ cars a day from QBE assessment centre alone A few options should become available which might be better than buying mine for $7000.
Hail damage wouldn't make a vehicle unroadworthy would it, unless it smashed the windows?
Couldn't you just withdraw your insurance claim and continue to drive it with dents?
I once had hail damage on ourcD1 and didn't claim, just got it repaired privately for a modest cost.
I remember the repairer asked if it was an insurance claim and when I said 'No' the cost of the repair almost halved! Miraculous.
