Disappointingly, no Gossips or Birds on a Wire.

Moreton Island today, weather not bad,a bit of rain every now and then, keeps the sand nice and hard.
Seem to save heaps of fuel when the sand is dampish.
Anyway, first catch of the trip,in a gutter off the Eastern beach. On a Pipi as well, which is surprising.Catch and release.

Mossman Caravan Park.
Arrived today, to look around, out Tuesday and slowly heading south to be back on the boat Aug 20th.
Have booked an appointment with Cameron at Old Jaguar to "tune" the transmission.
Up to the Daintree, Cape Trib etc tomorrow.
May go up to Cooktown via Bloomfield Track for a 5 min visit but as I've done it some years ago may not bother.
Disco today clocked up 5,000 klms since we left Tassy on June 20th, and running like the proverbial Swiss watch.
Averaging a true 15.7 lphk towing the 3.0T van; most times sitting on 95-100 kph when road surfaces permit....
7th gear @ 1800 rpm seems the norm and nice and sweet for the engine.
Oil level hasn't moved.
I have never seen so many caravanners on the road!
It's actually getting a bit stressful; looking for either a CP in advance (I deliberately don't book too far ahead as I want to retain flexibility) or even finding a low cost/free road side stopover.
By 1pm many of the spots are filled up at roadside 24hr stop overs.
School hols finish today so maybe the situation might ease a smidgen.
Lots of dirty red vehicles and vans/off road trailers returning from the Cape; must have been like peak hour traffic in Melb up there I reckon!
Oh well, it is what it is.
Not overly impressed with Far North weather though; rain, grey skies and wind but at least 27 deg which is nice.
Sunshine today at Mossman but forecast to crack up for next 3 days.
Nice Lizzy!
I've found this time of the year to be very productive for flatties, on Moreton. Especially the environment you mentioned. My biggest, so far, is 96 cm. I'm quietly confident of cracking a metre, one day. I'm sure they're there, somewhere. How long re you over for? I'll be over in a week and a bit.
Back Tuesday.
We used to catch them over 1.0M when i was a kid in the Logan river.Haven't seen one that sort of size for a long time.
I caught 30 on the beach at Coolangatta one rainy day,all around the 25 to 30cm size.Had quite a few Chinese tourists looking on and taking pics.[bighmmm]
It certainly was a wet but fun day.Prawns were the bait.
There must have been a huge school of them in the gutter.
