DPF's the end of diesel cars in cities?

We can do more to reduce *vehicle* emissions simply by:

-Banning vehicles beyond a certain age.
-Taxing older vehicles based on emissions
-Charging registration on a per kilometre basis (this has actually been tabled)
- Banning vehicle “tuner houses”, not mechanics but anyone who specialises in Remaps and performance enhancements.
- Exhaust shops can only fit factory systems
- Annual testing of emissions including CAT replacements (they have a limited lifespan)
- Change Motorsport regulations to ensure all vehicles meet emissions (good luck)

Each one obviously has major repercussions on people.

Another method is on street parking regulations. My d2 would not fit in the garage , so it lived on the street. From what I have seen it will get increasingly harder for permanent on street parking. The result for us and I guess quite a few others is the adoption of smaller cars and alternate forms of transport. So now Mrs takes the car and I walk to work.

Thats what we did in our day,a good walk a couple of k's each way didn't do anyone any harm,no matter what the weather,either to the bus stop,or to the school.

And these days kids need as much exercise as they can get.

For each bus,there would be a saving of around 20 to 30 car trips, twice a day.

That would keep the greenies happy and unclog our badly congested streets.

And run the buses on CNG,no DPF[biggrin]

We do have some who walk or ride and a lot already come on the school's fleet of buses, but most parents won't let their kids walk, either because they might do dumb things and get hurt or because they fear deviants might abduct them.

Sadly that’s how our world is perceived today.

Glad I grew up in an era where I could bike to school(about 5km) and roam the streets with freedom. As long as we were home for dinner, that's all that mattered.

And if more people gave a **** we still could.

I could name all my neighbours down our road..

Most people now are so self centred they couldn’t name the one right next door.

City thing...after 12yrs I know two neighbours in the city....after 2yrs of a house in a small town, I know all my immediate neighbours. I was lucky...I grew up in small towns and on farms. Best childhood ever. I feel for city kids.

Even if the child or teacher wished to cycle to school would the motorists accept them on the road ?
My nephews still get about mostly on their bikes , they could drive but have “ always “ been bike dependent.

I live in a rural area where everyone knows everyone else and for a special occasion I visited family members in Melbournes northern suburbs. The local community consisted of ever so many nationalities but white Aussies like me were a minority. I was told a similar tale of how everyone keeps to them selves and I experienced this too as locals walked to and from the small nearby shopping centre.

Revealing my rural roots I began saying hello to them and asking how they were. Initially I got short, guarded responses but after some days they were all stopping for a chat and a laugh - not that I could repeat their names or understand many of them. My relos were stunned.
