Thread: WHO WATCHED THE OPENING OF THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES ?

The closing ceremony left out the athletes marching into the stadium, which is the highlight, I think. Beattie said they didn't want the athletes to have to queue in the sun. But they let the crowd queue in the sun while the athletes were already inside. Strange.
BTW the entertainment was entertaining, but it's supposed to be a sporting event, not a concert. Did Guy Sebastian really deserve two songs? And the speeches were too long. We also learned that Birmingham is apparently populated by rappers muttering incoherently. Really?

Politicians, serving or ex, should never be allowed to get involved with such things, it always ends up being all about them.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

In the closet? Didn't have a huge smile, with a note, " trust me, I'm a Queenslander. "?

Missed the opening, Missed the closing but loved the marathon(s)

I went for a run on a treadmill for 2 hours myself watching some very tough men and women running at close to 20km per hour in 27 Degrees. Scott Callum colapse at 39km mark was heart breaking to watch. Michael Shelley home town win was amazing to see. Weightman and Trengove Silver and Bronze just before all the mens drama was as cool.

I scared a few people at the gym with my own sub 90m 1/2 marathon ( think steam train puffing and tropical down pour sweating ) Finishing my run at 30km as Michael Shelley got his Gold. Only 12km behind him The normal people sunday crew at the gym do not see running nuts like me often.

I watched the events several times and enjoyed them. A friend who was a volunteer had a great time.
BTW the athletes have visas to stay here until mid-May so just because a few are whereabouts unknown doesn't necessarily mean they have scarpered - they might just be tourists looking around. Apparently some headed to Cairns for diving.
