I'm not allowed to donate, I'm diabetic , though my condition has absolutely nothing to do with my blood and nobody could possibly contract diabetes by using my blood.
You're spot on Slunnie, with many a point. Correct he has relapsed and back into the thick of it now. Also correct in saying gutting for him (just couldn't imagine going through everything he has) and also for surrounding family of whom are with him practically majority of the day, every day (luckily there are a few that can share the load!). For me, the emotional drain takes it's toll and not helped being 850kms away but he realizes that I too have my own large-ish family to take care of.
Anyway, point is.... everyone that donates is undertaking a brilliant, selfless roll and it's really taken this event for me to see the importance and now sense of urgency for myself to donate when I can. I'm sure many people have life events/stories they can relay.
Take care.

The blood service is probably worried about your dropping dead on them!

possibly, my father had some sort of a record with the blood bank but when he was about 80 , I think, they wouldn't take blood from him any more and he was offended and very angry about it.
Giving some plasma today......
No. 1 son as well although there seems be a hold up with his counts, he was hoping to do first platelets but looks like he is hooked up to a plasma machine

In their wisdom, Red Cross shut down their blood donation service in Kalgoorlie some time age. We now have a 1200km round trip to Perth if we wish to donate blood. At the moment, they are desperately short of some products and are screaming for more donors. Go figure.
Cheers .........

I guess their dollar only goes so far and they need value for money from each collection centre......also I’m guessing it’s costly to get blood tested and shipped out of remote areas.
I assume they get some funding from the government? Maybe not? Either way somebody has to pick up the costs.
The Brisbane CBD Centre is always busy....today was insanely busy, first time I have seen every chair occupied.
No. 1 son had a 20 point drop in hemoglobin and heart rate of 48 (min 50). The got his heart rate up and a doctor ok’d the hemoglobin.....so he donated plasma. The platelets test wasn’t in the system so they took another sample for testing.
Another donation of plasma today ‘Clinical Plasma’ as opposed to the everyday plasma donation.
Good stuff mate! What blood type are you?
My mother in law died of blood cancer (short story) she had so many transfusions up until she passed.
My daughter, wife and father in law all have O neg so it's crucial that they donate for there own sake. Can't have all the O negs dying off because none of em wanted to donate.
Good stuff again mate!
Cheers Jim
I and SWMBO go in every month, i do 2 plasma and then a whole blood, being O neg they want my blood. did number 62 last week.
Unfortunately my veins are not that good and I have walked out a few times with both arms wrapped and no blood taken.
It works better in the afternoon when I am more hydrated, rather than in the morning after a few beers.
