Thread: Who else donates....whole blood, plasma or platelets

Been a bit slack off late...... Red Cross called yesterday saying they we low on fresh stock

Good enough reason for me to pop in

6min 15sec for whole blood

Apparently average is 8min

Thought I’d give a bit more....plasma today but not the normal, given it’s early in the week they collect a more pure plasma which means I get all the saline at the end so that it doesn’t mix. It’s also a bit quicker than the normal plasma donation.

The best part

I wish I could donate. I did for years when I was younger but that was in the UK. When I moved out here the mad cow thing means I cant. Awesome effort by those that donate regularly.

My goal was 12 donations this year, I can squeeze one more in right before XMAS which I’m sure they will out to good use.

I’ll ask them next visit what my tally is for the year.

Doing 2 x while blood has taken away opportunities,

1st one was to re-qualify me for plasma and see if my platelets count had improved enough to be able to donate

2nd one was by request when I rolled up for a scheduled plasma as they were desperately low on whole blood......

Good on you mate, we need more people to donate these days. Unfortunately there are lots who won't because they are afraid of it hurting. As we know it's often just a bit of a sting when they ***** it but otherwise painless. Some nurses are so good at it that they hardly even sting when they ***** you.
