Isn't a No5 trailer little ? I'd just stick my rego number on it and tow it home. If it's behind a victorian registered vehicle there is nothing they can do about. I cut a small car in 1/2 years ago ... stuck a drawbar on it ... and my rego number and towed it up through NSW and QLD. I did get pulled over by the police at one point and they said "its fine so long as a victorian registered car is towing it".

Yes it’s little, and I believe in Vic I can do the above.
However I also believe that in NSW - there is no such thing as exmpt trailers...

Wasn't it being towed back to victoria ? As I said above, if its being towed by a victorian registered vehicle, its considered "registered" in victoria. Otherwise every trailer that ventures across the border behind a victorian car would be booked!

We live in a border town up here and the NSW Highway Patrol have a field day knocking off Victorians towing their unregistered (registration exempt) 6 x4 trailers over into NSW. It's a $600 or more "blister," so about the equivalent of ten years trailer registration in Vic. Cheers, Mick.

I'd take it straight to court, if I can legally tow something around Victoria, it shouldn't matter if I cross any Australia border... I was pulled over in NSW and told as its a victorian car towing it ... I was fine. Bizarre or what.

What sort of asshole of a cop would you have to get to try that one on! Its the equivalent of trying to book me for my car being unregistered because its not registered in NSW.

Two can play at that game if they want to be assholes. I'll just take the numberplate of one of my registered trailers with me when I go pick it up.

Ahhh the old VIC NSW unregistered 6x4 debarkle. It's all a load of bull**** they need to either make us all register our 6x4s or let everyone get away without it. Even here in vic the whole if it's used for trade or business it needs to be registered is a load of ****. What if loaded my tools in my trailer instead of my car on a day I wasn't working, how the hell am I meant to prove that!! Register them all COUNTRY WIDE or don't.
Also I'm pretty sure I've read in the unregistered trailer section on Vic roads website that we must abide with interstate laws. So if we cross the border we have to register it, I'm gonna do some searching to confirm it though.
    Cheers Jim

Know anyone with a registered trailer? Borrow their number plate, take it with you and attach to the trailer for the journey home.
