God bless her little cotton sox for trying though

LOL! Your missus and my dad must be related! Either that, or genetically identical!
Funniest thing I've ever seen him attempt was to create a platform/shelf to hold about 200lt of water.
He had a blue drum, dunno what of but they're a common form with a large screw on top lid, all plastic, top lid about 40 or so cm diameter. I think they're more like a 180lt drum .. not quite as large as a 44gal.
Anyhow, about 200lt water = 200kg. Not hard to do, but not as easy as dad thought.
What he concocted was best described as bark, twigs, a bit of string and hope! Something that the Cat in the Hat would cobble up to reach something high up.
I kid you not, he had some roll of cotton like string, string diameter about 5mm, and he thought this stuff was going to 'cut it'. Old bits of timber, some lengths of tree branches ... etc.
Drum mounted just above average bloke head height(~ 1.8m). Shed roof filled said drum in no time, I doubt it got to about 1/4 full and it came down like a sack of spuds!
Brother took a photo of it, everyone else laughed, I just shook my head!
Anyhow, a few weeks later I had the time, got him some steel, welded up a frame, fitted two of those drums, with some shelving below for all his other bits of crap that he hoardes.
The sad bit is tho .. all the tools he needed to do a job of it, were all up at his place, and he had more than enough timber to do it all himself .. just zero idea how to do it.
