I LOVE THE SUMMER.....
Weather News - Heatwave forecast to span Australia according to Bureau of Meteorology
Much of inland Western Australia has been impacted by severe heatwave conditions over the past few days. The heat will move west across the Nullarbor, while a patch of heatwave conditions is expected to remain inland of Broome for the rest of the week.
????? Huh? Shirley they mean East or am I missing something here? West is good, East ain't.
I know I know, "Don't call me Shirley" I get it.
40° C isn't all that hot, equating to 104° F in the old scale.
110° F is hot, apparently!
I love Australia, which is why climate change scares me so much, because it's already doing huge damage to this country and the science says that is going to get much worse.
Even if we drastically cut emissions, that will only limit the damage.
Travelling around North Queensland late last year I could see how much prosperity the coal industry and tourism have brought to cities which had grown enormously in the last decade.
It's not surprising that residents value their coal jobs and want them to continue. It's also not surprising they would support politicians who promise to protect those jobs.
However, outside that region, it's clear that we have hit peak coal and the only possible way is a slow decline over several decades, as the banks walk away from financing new coal projects.
Mean while renewables are now the cheapest new form of energy and that's where the future jobs are.
North Queensland is perfectly placed to host a huge number of solar and wind farms and pumped hydro, providing future jobs.
That shift might even help to save the Great Barrier Reef from being boiled to death. Tourism employs far more people than coal, so that would be great for the regional economy.
The shift just requires leadership, which seems to be sadly missing.

HOT? HOT? When I were a wee lad we put our fur lined overcoats & gloves on when it got to 110* & when it got to 120* we walked the streets bare footed over hot tarred roads to cool our blistered feet down where the bitumen bubbled into large bubbles. We also bathed in leftover Gutter water to have a bath.
Hot? You ain't lived yet. Bloody kids today. Sheeeeeesh. (shakes head & ambles off stage right)
Mick, all that will be academic if the Chinese don't get on top of their Virus thingy.![]()
