So what? Read the century fire history in Bob's post above. What does it prove?

... While people inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide (billions of tonnes each year), this does not represent new carbon in the atmosphere, but rather recycled carbon that had been taken up by the animals and plants we eat...

Who ever wrote that piece needs to be fired and send back to school for a proper education.
I openly admit I'm not educated enough to know the exact science behind the human respiratory system, but that quoted section above is 101% pure ignorant BS.

We breath in C02, which makes up 0.04% of air, all well and good, no question about that, but to say that's then recycled is just plain ignorant.
We breathe out about 4% by volume C02 .. we are in effect very efficient C02 factories.
    That's a 100x scaling factor!

we're turning 400 parts per million into 40000 part per million.
    How is that 'recycled' ???

This is the kind of misinformation I really hate reading about.
(note: Nitrogen is recycled .. 78% in, 78% out).

I don't lean either way in the actual debate for or against. Globe is definitely warming. is it warming by 1° per year or whatever rubbish sensationalist notion they try to force .. most definitely not.
Did it rise by 1° from 1988 to 2018 .. as the predicted curve would have lead us to believe(back in 1988) .. no!
    is the globe warming? yes.
Is it going to continue to warm? who the hell knows(FOR SURE!!) .. no body. Anyone that tells it different has an agenda. The likely scenario is that it will.
No one knows how likely. Is it up to us? partially. Far too many factors to say for sure.
Should we reduce our consumption ? The interesting question.
At what cost? Consumption is what drives us, it's what allows our kids and their kids to have a 'future'. What jobs do they have to look forward too?

Lets take it to the extreme and stop all consumption, so that we all need to go back to the past and live subsistence lives .. like we used too way back whan.
We obviously didn't like that, we've done it. We(the royal we .. as in everyone, collectively on Earth) .. we decided that living like cave men on grassy plains chasing mamoths and gazelles .. was for the last generation.
We've collectively decided that we want modern lifestyles.

    Comes at a cost.
If we're ultimately doomed to cause our own extinction then that's the way the universe was finely tuned for this life cycle. If Darwin was right, then we go on .. in another form. So be it .. let it happen.
If god was right .. then we just go on .. for ever and ever and ever .. well just have to put up with whatever climate is happening at the time .. our 10K years ago ancestors did with their cold plight.

Recommended, have a look at PBS Space Time on Utube. the last vid was on how finely tuned the universe is for life as we know it. In almost every aspect the universe is finely tuned in so many ways. a less than 0.01% difference in the way particles were made to interact .. boom! no life(as we know it).

What if this fine tuning is such that we were meant to return the atmosphere back to higher CO2 concentrations, and there's another life form, or evolution of homo sapiens still waiting for us to do it.
What if those future evolution of our current selves are the ones to discover the all encompassing theory of everything, figure out faster than light travel, colonize many planets out there that all have Mars like Co2 dense atmospheres ...

There are always going to be elements of our civilisation that like to play god with the general population .. always. From conquerors/dicatorships to religion to politics and now capitalists.
It's those people that are dangerous(climate scientists included) .. they have zero level of humility nor the ability to see the consequences of what their doing. They may think their right .. but what if they're wrong! That thought has never entered their minds.
Have they formulated contingency plans for such a scenario?

Reminds me of the saying .. better the devil you know, than the devil you don't.

    Arthur.

I read that as a reference to the Australian - or any other Murdoch newspaper for that matter.

so the carbon tax should apply to breathing.

Because it’s not. That’s what they’ve been struggling with.
