Just saying it comes across like that’s what he’s saying when he writes ‘we were running dangerously low on fuel (beer, not diesel)’ of course I could be wrong, but personally I would have phrased things differently if that was the case.

Just my 2 cents, as valid opinion as anyone else’s.

Generally people here subscribe to the ‘tread softly’ approach to four wheel driving and ‘leave a campsite better than you found it’ type of thing which I personally subscribe to, so statements like ‘We followed some old fire trails that hadn't been driven on for years, basically punching our way through small saplings‘ may not fall into that category depending on where you stand, and doesn’t from mine. I’d leave tracks that are being overgrown like that alone to regenerate as there are too many being trashed by good ol boys with their 35’s these days. This sort of behaviour IMO will see many tracks closed permanently going forward so those that still want to enjoy what’s left have to speak up and have our say.

And again, just my 2 cents but I do feel strongly about this subject as there are many places being closed now due to poor behaviour in the bush.

    Sheesh... what a reaction

dunno why I feel it necessary to defend myself but anyway...

1, as the driver I wasn't drinking so no, my misjudgment of the approach angle for one of the many crossings we went through was not alcohol fuelled. Three inches to the left and we wouldn't have come unstuck and indeed didn't on the second attempt.

2, these are fire trails and are supposed to be kept clear for that purpose. If the Fireys had been doing their job the trail would have been easier to get through. The locals who live bordering this area wouldn't be happy at how thick parts of the trails were (indeed the bloke in the t-shirt lives there and wasn't impressed).

You blokes need to chill out a bit and not take things so seriously. Reading the comments I could easily be deceived into thinking I was on a Yank forum. What happened to the Aussie sense of humour?

    But you defend yourself regardless...

Fire trails designed to be kept clear - are kept clear by those that may need to use them. I have friends who’s job this is. Not sure up in your part of the world, but down here an overgrown trail is overgrown for a reason - usually regeneration of that area. Bush bashing through trails like this is vandalism here, but again, may be different up there - wouldn’t pay to consider the same tracks down here open slather. No gate stopping you maybe? Why should that make it ok and do we have to pay to put gates up everywhere to stop this sort of behaviour?

And appologies if I insinuated you’d been drinking - writing ‘we’ had run out of beer sure makes for a misleading statement IMO and something you may want to consider next time before posting.

IMO reckless behaviour like this has nothing to do with ‘The Aussie sense of humour’ more the minority wrecking things for those that do the right thing. I need to chill? How about those ****ing things up for everyone else - maybe they should chill and we’d all be better off.

I’ll post no more here, I have made my point, I personally think you did the wrong thing, and are spoiling the bush for the rest of us. Don’t come back here ****ing and moaning your favourite tracks have been closed because you were probably part of the problem that caused it IMO.

Yes, I’m ticked off, because I am seeing first hand my favourite campsites and tracks getting closed because they are being wrecked by the minority. Your reaction to these posts suggests IMO you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

    Rant over.

Not in State forests or National Parks - at least not in Victoria, DELWP do.

Good on you for getting out there, looks like you had some fun despite the slip - happens to a lot but sometimes thats the fun when you're going out for a spin. Good on you for keeping the tracks accessible also, the firies will no doubt appreciate that they can get down it if they have to.

Dont sweat about the stooges, everybody likes 4WDing for different reasons. Playing is a good reason.
    Cheers
