40 of 49 newly launched Starlink satellites have been knocked out of commission. They are in the process of re-entering Earth’s atmosphere, where they will be incinerated.

Typical County Council. They **** up & cannot make a quick decision to remove the ****ers that are causing Damage & possibly physical injuries. The stupid sods shouldn't have installed them without a thorough investigation imho.

Maybe the workmen & Engineers cannot read a simple measuring tape which are still in Imperial.

Given there are over 1900 of ‘em up there I can’t see Elon being too worried. And there are plenty more to come. They put up an average of 50 per launch.

Not a problem with shielding. The satellites are launched into a very low orbit and then slowly moved into the correct orbit using their own 'steam'.

But the CME heated the upper atmosphere causing it to expand and increase the drag on the satellites. For 40 of the satellites this increased drag resulted in the satellites having insufficient delta V (limited by the reaction mass carried) to reach their operatiomal orbit. This despite being turned edge on to minimise drag.

The space weather forecast noted the CME but forecast 'minimal effects'. The only feasible way of dealing with this would have been to delay the launch, which would have caused problems with the launch program. I would guess that this is the first time this has happened and they did not know whether it would be a problem or not. Now they know!

Like today, lugging a 2 wheeled loan trailer around because the draw bar is really short & behind the 2A with it's "Super Power Steering" & 7.50 x 16 tyres., it was quicker to do it by hand & be done with it even though there were slopes involved. The geographical ones not the other sort..


It ain't easy for "the man on the land these days" especially when that man is on his Pat & 'indoors can't reverse for nuts.. Well certainly not in a 2A, & to obey hand signals.


I haven't yet persuaded her to try the Army Method. Ya know, the arms outstretched one although it might be a bit easier if I used The Helicopter Hand Signals.
