Time for a trade in for a newer model that doesn’t yet show the wear and tear of everyday use??
Decision time. Driving along there is an incessant droning noise from the passenger side. The Puma is that quiet that it is even more annoying. Was checking the suspension yesterday and there is a pronounced sagging. The body work used to be A1,now there are places where it is upsetting to look at. Before I could rub my hand along the body work and get a smile of satisfaction on my face, but now...
I know if it was the Defender I could remedy these faults but it's the wife I'm talking about. Any advice?

It sounds a bit like my 1985 110 with 485,000 on the clock.
You tend to just put with the annoying faults after a while and spend a bit on maintenance items. You know all the faults by now.
New models have faults as well , you just don’t know them yet , sounds risky.
New 20” tyres
Special creams and waxes
Electrical gizmos
The list goes on and on.
I’m nearly through a refurb on my 110 and have lost a few kilos along the way, they tend to add up over the years.
Maybe spend some cash on the old girl and she might come up looking a treat.
A guy on a bike asked me the other day how many klms on the thing , he was amazed when I said 485,000.
A v8 with extractors and a 3” exhaust will help with the droning sound, just be careful with the resonator as sometimes they can make a droning sound at cruising revs, not ideal.
If the droning is still audible increase either revs or exhaust size.

and dont forget to cast an eye over the companies preceding model, excluding aftermarket plastic bits and bodywork mods you can usually get a good idea on how well the new one is likely to age.

Ive found its a pretty good comparator on the whole...
just as an example mostly you can look at an old shed class or a newer one and they hold up well in comparison to each other, The defender (and all shed class in general) as we know have good genes from the get go so they age well..
now your average cruiser or patrol if you compare one from the same vintage as the defender in the previous example, they dont fare so well mostly you find them discarded on junk heaps rusted out or sickly waiting for their latest injection of illegal crap to keep them functioning on the same level as the trusty landrover. The examples of them that dont fall into this category have had obsene amounts of money lavished on them and likely havent done an honest days work in their sad excuses of existence. You can always spot them, buffed and shone bodywork, every bit of bling that never gets used just a money pit that looks good.
Theres the odd one here or there thats stood up well and represents a fair exception to the rule and in the same vein even landrover got it wrong occasionally but generally if you're prepared to allow a slight bias that excludes the exceptions you'll be on the right track.
