    Hi,
Years ago I was very tempted to tie a glow-stick under a helium balloon on 200m or so of black cotton and wander nonchalantly along the beach at night.
Too many potential repercussions these days for simple giggles unfortunately.
    Cheers

At the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, a Russian MP came up to me.
"Are you going to bomb Iran?" he asked.
"I'm not planning to bomb anyone!" I replied.
    "I mean you, the British…"
    "Don't you mean Donald Trump?"
"He's told what to do by Britain," the man smiled. "And by the deep state."
It was a brief, bizarre conversation. But it showed that in St Petersburg this week there was more on people's minds than just the economy.

The truth is as strange as a good conspiracy theory of course

It's been over ten years, but finally we've got to the truth.

    Ausstrlain Nuclear Weapons!

Doing a history of Australian mines for myself. My Interest in Nuclear Power related of course.

This was on our almost history of the NASTY NASTY stuff weapons

    this isn't surprising yet amazing

"One of Australia’s ‘power full friends,’ the U.K., was preparing to leave the scene. Would the other, the U.S. also drift away? [….] [Prime Minister] Gorton told the Liberal Party caucus and the press that he was convinced there would be a major U.S. retrenchment in Asia—possibly amounting to a return to pre-World War II isolationism—under the next U.S. administration, and that this might well necessitate abandonment of ‘the Menzies concept of forward defense’ in favor of ‘an Israeli-type defense scheme.’84 In less than five years, Australia’s most feared great power threat (China) had acquired nuclear weapons, and its two most important al lies (Britain and the United States) had reduced their regional security commitments, with the former withdrawing completely. Most Australian leaders did not see an immediate threat to Australian security, but many felt more uncertain and anxious about Australia’s future."

Very Glad we didn't go down that rabbit hole!

Harold Holt going for a swim changed history might be todays conspiracy theory ?

"Holt’s government opposed the move “for fear [that] it would com promise a future nuclear weapons program.”96 In particular, the Aus tralians feared the prospect of IAEA inspectors roaming the country at will—a concern that later resurfaced during the debate over the NPT.97 Australia’s opposition to the safe guards transfer was not expressed to the Americans, but it was suffi ciently strong that members of the Cabinet thought it would be prefer able to close the Lucas Heights re search reactor rather than comply with the request.98"

How weird is this bit "Despite the rejection of the power plant proposal, the issue of nuclear weapons would not die. In January 1967, the chairman of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Glenn Seaborg, visited Canberra. As his diary records, nuclear weapons were still a live option: At dinner, Sir Leslie Martin (Australian AEC member and scientific adviser to the Department of Defense) told me that the Government of Australia was struggling with the decision of whether to produce a nuclear weapon.102"

    That's seriously odd!

From The Nonproliferation Review/Fall 1997 by Mr Jim Walsh NPR 5.1: SURPRISE DOWN UNDER: THE SECRET HISTORY OF AUSTRALIA'S NUCLEAR AMBITIONS

In April 15 1953, Australia entered the nuclear science arena, when the Atomic Energy Act came into effect. The Australian Atomic Energy Commission (AAEC) followed and in 1987 the AAEC evolved into the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) as it’s known today
Trivia another Mr Walsh I know built the current Australian Nuclear reactor Don't tell the anti nuclear power types -Lucas Hights helps save tens of thousands of lives every year shhhhhh I don't like nuclear weapons!

MIA CULPA- 700,000 per year!!! Nuclear Medicine | Products and Services: Health | ANSTO enable 700,000[1] patient procedures each year[2].
