Looks like they may finally be taking a look at that in the USA. They have proposed the 'Pelosi Act' (named for good reason) to try and curb US politicians from insider trading. It's a good idea in concept, except I'm sure they will circumvent it by merely going through an intermediary to keep breaking the law...

One could be forgiven into believing his " Aum mates" were able to give the authorities further conclusive evidence which confirmed his total guilt so was executed about a month later.

Even if they were mining uranium, getting from there to a nuclear weapon needs very extensive industrial infrastructure, including large quantities of electricity. This would never have been available there, even if they had the technology.

Natural uranium is around 99% U238 and 1% U235. To make a nuclear weapon requires the U235 concentration to be increased to at least 20%, and for a practical weapon, much higher. This requires industrial scale technology, and attempts to acquire this would alarm security organisations round the world.

On the other hand, scattering even natural uranium in a city would represent a substantial health hazard, and with the history of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, would have major effects on the Japanese population. So maybe they were looking at this idea.

All true - but they did have Russian nuclear scientists in their group. Maybe they acquired something from Russia?

Frankly, if they had in fact let off a nuclear device in WA presumably there'd be radiation all over the place - the explosion or impact was calculated as 1/5th of the energy of one of the bombs dropped on Japan. I presume that the authorities tested for radiation ....

But it's still an odd coincidence that there was either a major earthquake in the area around that time or a very large meteorite impact, the crater for which has never been found.

An earthquake in that area would not be all that surprising. Some of the largest earthquakes in Australia since instrumentation has existed were in that part of the country (in the WA craton).
