I been reading all these comments (elsewhere) about people in surrounding suburbs hearing and feeling this quake.

I must be dead cause I didn't hear or feel anything and I've been home all day.

I was in Mendi for the Madang earthquake in PNG in 1970. It was at about 0400. It woke me up and was still going long enough to recognise what it was and seriously consider whether under the bed was safer than in it. In the event there was no significant damage in Mendi, but damage was extensive in Madang, including wrecking the airport's runway and destrying every masonry building in town. Closest I ever want to be to an earthquake!

Fortunately, significant ones are fairly rare everywhere in Australia, although there are a few every year somewhere - but you don't hear about them unless they are close to a town. Same thing with tornadoes - not uncommon here (there have been two on my place since 1993 when I moved here), but really most of Australia is almost uninhabited!

This morning we are greeted by the news that if you want to drive to Sydney via Orange - you can't, due to the combination of a truck accident at Raglan and snow. More snow is expected today, I believe.

BOM forecasts widespread rain along east coast as dry season rain streams in from Top End

Her it comes again Wet weather gear ready again

There is some good news " regions from Darwin to Hobart can expect rain between now and early next week.
Ms Johnson stressed that flood-affected regions in the Northern Rivers and South East Queensland were not considered to be at serious risk – for now – of extreme rainfall this weekend."

Edit I did not see those short shorts until it was posted!
